Panthers scare me

I'm still trying to find the last time the panthers played a good QB

don't give me matt ryan or eli manning........both teams have coughed up a hairball

panthers defense will be overmatched

as for the offense, it doesn't scare anyone

Would tell me it was a division game....

This isn't a Patriot squad of years past. That isn't a slam. As long as Brady is there you guys can beat anyone. But you guys are respected, you aren't scary anymore.

the pats dumped the majority of its receiving core form last year......the first half of this year was supposed to be a struggle. but the pieces have come back together

the pats put up 55 on a defense that had been playing every bit as well as the panthers defense. expect more of the same

Um, No....the Pittsburgh D has not been playing every bit as well as Carolina. Pitt has been heavily criticized this year for there old and slow looking D....

Statements like that suggest you haven't enough ball outside NE....

Bc your O has "overmatched" so many defenses this year?

Yea...the Steelers defense is no where near the level that the Panthers are playing on. Let's pump the brakes with the offense a little bit here. For as great as it looked vs steelers, let's not forget how bad it looked first half vs the fins, second half vs the jets, and against the Bengals. The offense is getting their, but Monday will be its toughest test of the season.

Dont get me wrong, if we put up 40+ on Carolina, I'd more then happily eat crow, but I'm not expecting it.

last 5 games, they gave up 55 to the pats and averaged less than 14 to the rest

you were saying? funny thing is that what ails the steelers defense is the same thing that ails the panthers defense.....the secondary stands to be shredded by a decent QB

outside of the pats game, the steelers defense had played pretty damned well since their bye.......against better offenses than what the panthers faced

the panthers have faced a bunch of offensive chumps.......this is still a team that got spanked by the cardinals and lost to the bills.....

Again, the Steelers D was heavily criticized before the NE matchup....

They haven't been comparable to Carolina this year even if you exclude the NE game.

Secondary isn't a stand alone unit.... we arguably have the best front 4 and one of the best front 7's in the NFL. That impacts a secondary.

Brady has had some issues this year with protection and pressure. Carolina can pressure and drop 7.

I got mad respect for Brady. I personally have him as the GOAT ahead of Montana.

But I think one week of football before the bye is making you forget everything NE has shown this year.

Should be a good game.

what they showed was the ability to win minus gronk, amendola, ridley, vereen. what they showed in that one week is what happens when everyone (ex vereen) is back. what is happening is exactly what people expected to happen since last spring. regardless of their issues, and there have been plenty of them, they have been deadly after the bye.

you can try to believe that what happened against the steelers wasn't real.......but it is

it might be a good game......that's up to the pats

The pats have shown this year that they never give up no matter what and find ways with win with guys who are brand new to the system. Every impact playing on D has been out for extended periods of time and they find ways to win. That is where 95% of teams fold.

This didn't come from 1 week of football. They are 7-2 for a reason

Pittsburgh had the #1 pass defense in the league going into the Pats' game. It was a bit misleading since teams could run all over them. But they were a top pass defense.

Carolina is a more rounded defense. They have a great pass and run defense. From the pass defense standpoint, they are fairly on par with the Steelers. The difference is that they are far superior vs. the run.

We're coming of a bye week, if anything there is no excuse to lose with two weeks to prepare for them, i don't want to hear a single excuse. I don't care how highly ranked their defense is or how well Cam is playing, We should be Favourite to win and rightfully so.

I will never forget our first-round playoff loss a few seasons back when the Jets upset us @ home, when we are @ full strength, with an extra week to prepare, and with Ryan hurling personal insults @ Brady.

So, weird that such posters don't either know or remember recent history and don't want to 'hear' excuses because they think that a bye-week is enough for a team - decimated with injuries but slowly getting its strength back - to go on road against a highly rated D team and win a solid W.

I do expect the Pats to win but believe that will be because we will have our O @ near to full strength and our D bolstered with Talib's return.

there's nothing the panthers defense can key on that will cause problems in other facets

and now with some offensive roster stability, you'll see the pats push the pace.

this game will be similar in nature to the 2 Houston games last year.

no other teams are relevant in the Pats-Jets context

Newton has no deep ball?

You do realize Newton was one do the best deep ball passer in the NFL in both 2011 and 2012, right?

The offensive scheme has changed up some and they don't ask him to go deep as often now. He also has some bad drops when he occasionally does. He basically takes what D's give him and is one of the most accurate QBs in the entire league short this year. Bc teams give it.....he takes it. His first two years all he did was attack deep bc that was what he naturally did well

Claiming he has no deep ball pretty much ignores reality IMO. Some times you have to look at a stat sheet and then watch games to figure out why certain things are what they are

I dunno. I obviously haven't watched him as much as you, but I have seen every Panthers game this year. It looks to me like Cam has the same issue with his deep ball that Brady has shown at times, which is that he has very little touch on deep throws. He just slings them and puts very little arc on the throw, which means that even defenders who are beaten by a solid step get a shot at breaking up the pass. He also seems to lack a bit of accuracy on the sidelines; how many times have you seen him attempt deep sideline throws this year only to sail the ball way out of bounds? Granted, if you're going to miss on those passes, that's the preferred way to do it, but he misses on them so consistently that they start to feel like throwaway plays.

As I said earlier, he's a really good QB (I own him on all of my fantasy teams for a reason), and he scares me in a lot of ways, but his deep ball really isn't one of them. And to be fair to him, that's probably at least in part because your WRs just aren't very good. Who's he supposed to connect with deep? Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn, or 35 year old Steve Smith? It's the same problem that the Pats had for the past 3-4 years, although it looks like they might have found an answer in Aaron Dobson.

Speaking of Dobson, he's a really tough matchup for the Panthers. They're definitely lacking talent in the secondary--my best friend lives in Charlotte and he and all of his friends are the first to admit that, and it's a testament to how good their front lines are that it hasn't really been exposed--and they don't have a corner who matches up especially well with big, physical receivers. Between Josh Thomas and Drayton Florence, who do you think will draw the Dobson assignment? In theory, either is a good matchup for Dobson, and I expect Brady to go deep and try to exploit that a few times. His success will be dictated more than anything by the offensive line's ability to keep him standing on those plays. If the line does its job, I expect Dobson to have a couple of long catches.

Opposing fans come here sharing that sentiment every week, and usually they're never heard from again after their team loses in convincing fashion.

Let's stick to talking actual football rather than meaningless phrases like who's 'scarier'. It's a pointless discussion that people rely on only when they don't have enough knowledge to discuss things that actually matter.

I think the Panthers see this as a coming out party and both their team and their fans are going to be loaded for bear come Monday night. They have a really good front 7 defensively and MacDaniels is going to have to have one of his best games of the year in terms of both gameplan and calling plays. I expect Vereen to be a focal point for them even though it's his first week back because I expect them to try and spread them out and make them play the whole field to offset the strength the Panthers have inside defensively. We could see more screens and trap plays to try and offset their pass rush. On defense I expect it to be the same approach they have been using with mobile QB's all season, keep Newton in the pocket, keep a spy on him, and make him beat you over the top. They will try to take away Smith and see if the Panthers can beat them with their other skill players.
