Good coach but standards are clearly relaxing.

Relaxed standards don't explain Dungy & Cowher (who both did less with far more) in ahead of Flores and Coryell. I just don't get it. It is truly nonsensical. Seriously, it's bad enough Coryell's eventual induction will be posthumous but whose cornflakes did Flores pee in?

Being on TV a long time helps a lot

Well, he did give BB a lot of credit for his success, so there's that

they should call it steelers hall of fame

They needed an answer to MLB for Harold Baines.

Coryell won 3 playoff games in his entire career. That’s what’s keeping him out.

Revolutionized the passing game

I wonder if his last 3 years in Seattle ( 14-34) hurt his body of work as coach of the Raiders.. He may be the only two time Super Bowl winning coach NOT in the HOF. His QB Plunkett is the only 2 time Super Bowl winning QB not in the HOF ( who is eligible)

Dungy developed that Tampa defense that wrecked the Raiders in SB 37. He is the creator of “Tampa 2”

We hear that BS every year. But somehow we accept getting fed that Dungy got in based in large part for the 'innovation' behind the Tampa2, yet 70% of the passing offense we see now can be traced in one form or another to Coryell and...crickets.

Yeah, you don't want to get in an 'innovation' measuring contest between Dungy and Coryell, lol

I do think Seattle hurt Flores but not as much as not being the 'right' type of minority.

BTW, Jimmy Johnson won 2 SB's and it doesn't look like he's getting in anytime soon either

I don’t think dungy belongs but at least he won a SB
Coryell put a bunch of stud players together and threw it a lot before it became popular but I don’t think it was particularly innovative. And his style of offense definitely isn’t what Is prevalent today.

Cowher lost four AFC championship games. All at home. That's incredible when you think of it.

WTH are you talking about with that Coryell's offense isn't what's prevalent today BS???
If any group of fans in the NFL is watching the influence of Air Coryell today it's Pats fans.

You must be under 50 because you obviously can't know much about football pre Coryell or you'd know just how innovative he was. He was the first to make the read & react/take what the defense gives you the cornerstone of the offense. Prior to Coryell the downfield pass-catching tight end was practically unheard of. He created the three-digit play-calling system that's still in use today and actually originated the one-back offense. Coryell was the creator of the receiving routes passing tree that is now the standard across the game and the McDaniels/Brady offense's bread n butter. Ditto with motion heavy formations. His strategies forced all manner of changes on the defensive side of the ball and his coaching tree is formidable to say the least. And those are just the examples that come quickly to mind.

I’m not going to get into an argument, you are free to believe what you want. He was a smart offensive guy. The patriot offense isn’t at all similar to what Coryell ran.

The old “hall of very good” strikes again.
