OT: Steelers Looking to Acquire Trevor Lawrence

Kirk Cousins was far better. "Far better" is carrying a lot of weight. At the end of the day their a fat rounding error offb on individual stats and TL has .500 record in post season (1-1) versus KC .200 (1-4) record. At least TL has youth.

He is above average. Needs more talent around him.

I dont think JAX wants that much dead money on the books without a competent QB on the roster

IDK, RW. If you make a list of the starting QB's in the League, I'm not at all sure he ends up in the top third. Right around the middle, I'd say.

He was hurt last year and the team was in turmoil.
2023 year he was OK. In 2022 they had a good playoff run.

He feels like hes top 11-15.

Another **** year then i'm in line with your assessment.

I love to **** on Kirk as much as the next guy, but he's clearly better than Lawrence. If you had to pick one or the other to start for your team for a season at any point in their career, you easily are picking Kirk Cousins. You don't even think about. You only maybe pick Lawrence now because Kirk is on his way out and Lawrence will have more guaranteed years barring injury

I wonder where Cousins ends up next. Maybe the Steelers should inquire about him.

Ok, fair but Watson' contract damage is mostly done.

Actually Watson's deal hasn't hurt them yet, the real damage is in the on deck circle. @$73M in cap its this year and next

Useful. I would point out that, with 32 starters, 15 makes him dead on average, and 11 barely in the top 1/3.
Really, we need a better set of buckets to put these guys in. Something like:
1. good enough to be the main reason you win a title (2-3 guys) (Mahomes, Allen, maybe Jackson)
2. good enough to be one of several reasons you win a title (another 2-4 guys) (Burrows, Herbert, Hurts...)
3. good enough to win a title if the rest of the team is dominant (Daniels, Stafford, Murry, Young, Purdy...)
4. good enough to keep as the starter but a player you are looking to upgrade if you get lucky or impatient/courageous
5. a constant sore spot but nobody has dislodged him yet
6. a primary focus for upgrade, should be a backup

Something like that.

You are saying Lawrence is in group 3, in this schema, I'd guess?

I think most teams get stuck with players who are #4 but delude themselves into thinking he's a #3, and keep team building around him, because upgrading either costs a fortune (a vet) or is a complete reset (a rookie), and there's hope that "if we just add a couple more pieces..."

Based on your buckets and his 2024 year, I guess Group 4 would be where I place him.

With that he's capable of Group 3.

Note- id put Burrow, Daniels and Hurts ahead of L Jackson.

Edelman is not a guy that can be depended on to be the focus of your offense. He had help. He also had the greatest TE of his generation in Gronk clearing out space for him and favorable matchups. There were other WR's/TE's that helped out as well. Edelman by himself would've gotten erased by good teams. Even Welker had problems in big games when Gronk was in his early years.

Come on now.

You're not wining anything with Lawrence either.
Gronk wasn't available all the time for Edelman, and the Atlanta SB was one of those times. Jules dominated that game.

People tend to forget the NEP had Marty Bennett in 2016 who had a very good year and a solid SB.

He softened the blow in 2016 whereas in 2011, 2012, and 2013 we came up short partly because Gronk was not available

Bennett is a forgotten man. He was a good player and he had just enough juice left in the tank at that point.

I suppose if the extension could have worked for JAX, then it can work for PITT.

Lawrence could be willing to cooperate as long as he gets his guarantees.

I don't see TL going anywhere, although I have been wrong before.
