OT: Steelers Looking to Acquire Trevor Lawrence

I think this is insane. Lawrence is a decent QB and has a high ceiling. Maybe all this noise will just motivate and push him to his supposed ceiling. You must be super foolish to trade Lawrence. Don't see it happening. Unless Steelers gives 2 1s and 2 seconds.

I am obv in the minority. Is he decent ? If so, what - other than one so so year & draft status - makes him « decent » ? There’s nothing there but fluff. No winning, no real progress.

I wouldn’t want Lawrence. I’d rather roll the dice on a draft pick. He is a poor man’s Herbert (which isn’t much).

He is a top 15 QB and can extend with his legs and can see a resurgence like baker. He has had pretty poor coaching for 2 of his 4 years. He has prototypical QB size and if you build team around him , he can be better version of hurts.

And he was considered a generational prospect and outside of some errant throws he still possessed the intangibles . With a good coach and possibly stud running back jaguars could come back in contention.

You don't win with " a decent QB". Also at some point you can't just keep talking about a guys ceiling when he's been in the league an extended period of time. He is what he is. And unless you build a loaded team around him (something the Jags are many years away from) then you are just wasting time.

Baker showed he could be good early on and had a dip and came back. Trevor has never showed he can be anything besides what he's been.

Hope it doesn't happen. Lawrence has a ton of talent and if he gets to an NFL franchise that isn't some hayseed operation like Jacksonville he could turn into what he was supposed to be.

If I were Jacksonville, I would’ve never extended him and traded him yesterday.

TL is the next generation Kirk Cousins. He keeps getting paid ridiculous amounts, accomplishes nothing, but keep teasing being just about there.

From ESPN’s Jaguars beat reporter:

So... Herbert?
the worst thing management was strip down the roster when he couldn’t win when he had talent. He had almost zero firepower on offense this season. This board’s favorite McConkey is a nice start, but he’s never going to take over games. They won more games than they should’ve because of the lack of competition. They got beat downs by the good teams.

They're in rebuild mode after wasting every year of Herbert's rookie deal on completely incompetent coaches. LA has a very good offensive line but they need to add some weapons to the offense. Quinton Johnson is somewhat of a disappointment but could be a competent number two outside guy if they find another number one receiver. McConkey is a good volume/slot guy but they need an upgrade at TE and RB as well.

McConkey is never going to take over games?

He is an Edelman clone.

Edelman is not a guy that can be depended on to be the focus of your offense. He had help. He also had the greatest TE of his generation in Gronk clearing out space for him and favorable matchups. There were other WR's/TE's that helped out as well. Edelman by himself would've gotten erased by good teams. Even Welker had problems in big games when Gronk was in his early years.

Come on now.

Yup!

The can ride the Mac Jones Express.
You're not wining anything with Lawrence either.

For Trevor Lawrence on a very affordable contract? Really?
Really. He's had four years and only produced one that was even slightly above mediocre and that was three years ago. You're going to give up TWO first-rounders for that guy who you'd be tied to until 2030 at an AAV of 55 million? With a no-trade clause?

Kirk Cousins was far better.
