Deal-wise it makes sense for Pitt. This trade actually does make a lot of sense for both sides.
It lets Jacksonville get out of having to pay out the option bonuses and start over at QB, and also get a decent return in picks for him.
For Pitt, Lawrence is an upgrade and with his signing bonus money being removed from the deal, he becomes pretty affordable for the next several seasons. His huge $50M+ salaries don't start until 2029 and they're not guaranteed, so if he isn't worth those by then, they can just cut him and take a one time ~$50M dead money hit at that time instead. By 2029, that amount of money probably won't be as painful. If he IS worth that, they'll restructure that into a signing bonus and extension.
And now Jacksonville shoots down the idea to calm Lawrence down. While also signalling to teams that "We're listening to offers."Jaguars Call Idea Of Trading Trevor Lawrence 'Ridiculous'
Update: Mark Kaboly says Pittsburgh "in no way imaginable" spoke with the Jaguars about a trade for Lawrence and adds they have no interest in a trade. ESPN's Michael DiRocco reports, citing a team source, nfltraderumors.co

I HOPE teams are eyeing Sanders.I am not sure why sites like OTC think Lawrence has so much dead money from a trade if most of the future cap hits are from option bonuses. As I understand it, those option bonuses would become the responsibility of the acquiring team, so they wouldn't hit Jax's cap at all. It seems more like Jax's dead money would be more along the lines of $30M, which is only about $12M more than Lawrence's 2025 cap hit. They have $32M in cap space (probably more, if the cap goes up as assumed) so they can absorb that and make a couple moves.
They Steelers would likely send a haul starting with the #21 pick and another couple future 1sts. Jacksonville already has #5 overall and could be eyeing Sanders. Could see them doing that, and Liam Coen signing Chris Godwin to a deal to pair with Brian Thomas. Then using pick 21 on a left tackle.
OTC's numbers look wrong IMO.How would their cap work if he's traded after June 1?

If he's traded then why isn't the Jags cap charge $30M since his signing bonus would accelerate to this year?
Harsh but fair.************. You think he’s much closer to being a High School QB than a winner?
Those are some harsh words.
Why in god's name would Pitts give up even ONE 1st rounder let along THREE?I am not sure why sites like OTC think Lawrence has so much dead money from a trade if most of the future cap hits are from option bonuses. For Trevor Lawrence on a very affordable contract? Really? Why in god's name would Pitts give up even ONE 1st rounder let along THREE?
I have no idea why Jacksonville would make this move, unless Mac Jones has somehow made them believe he can be their guy moving forward...?

Wonder what ever became of that thread?
nah, watson has the worst deal in the leagueIf I were the Jags, I would bite their hand off. He has the worst contract in the league by far and he is an average QB at best.
