OT: Steelers Looking to Acquire Trevor Lawrence

He is above average. Needs more talent around him.

I dont think JAX wants that much dead money on the books without a competent QB on the roster
He's a little above average. He's a lot closer to Mac Jones than he is of ever being one of the guys that wins games for you.

He's not someone I would would marry my franchise to

I don’t think Lawrence is going anywhere. I think the Jags will try to give him more weapons to work with instead of giving up on him.

************. You think he’s much closer to being a High School QB than a winner?

Those are some harsh words.

Thinking about it I honestly don’t know what Lawrence’s issues are because I haven’t seen him play enough. Can someone here enlighten me on his strengths and weaknesses?

Who does it serve for this news to be out there? I think Jacksonville leaked it because they are hoping to start a bidding war for him. Why? No idea.

Mac is an unrestricted free agent. If they really liked him wouldn't we have heard as much by now?
You mean Jacksonville didn’t exercise the 5th year option on him?

Agree. He is not.

TL is above average and that's ok. Hes top 15-20 QB. Hurt last year. Need to have another 2022 season

Pleased for Pro Bowler Mac Jones that he has won the starting job for the London Jaguars. Lawrence is a bust.

I think you put Lawrence on a non-dysfunctional team that doesn't expect him to save them and he probably plays better than half the qbs in the league. He hasn't shown yet to be elite but he can be more than just serviceable.

Skeptical. Makes no sense for Jax. Nothing on the Jags board about this either.

I wouldn't go by that - that place is a ghost town.

However, they are talking about it on Reddit and I noticed ESPN Jaguars reporter Michael DiRocco inquired and said this:

Didn't shoot down the fact the Steelers asked, but definitely shot down the idea the Jags would even consider moving him.

I am not sure why sites like OTC think Lawrence has so much dead money from a trade if most of the future cap hits are from option bonuses. As I understand it, those option bonuses would become the responsibility of the acquiring team, so they wouldn't hit Jax's cap at all. It seems more like Jax's dead money would be more along the lines of $30M, which is only about $12M more than Lawrence's 2025 cap hit. They have $32M in cap space (probably more, if the cap goes up as assumed) so they can absorb that and make a couple moves.

They Steelers would likely send a haul starting with the #21 pick and another couple future 1sts. Jacksonville already has #5 overall and could be eyeing Sanders. Could see them doing that, and Liam Coen signing Chris Godwin to a deal to pair with Brian Thomas. Then using pick 21 on a left tackle.

Was Grilled Cheese the original source for this rumor?

The structure of the contract gives them a window to make a trade. On the tenth day of the 2025 league year, Lawrence earns a $35 million option bonus. Before then, a trade would trigger a $30 million dead-money charge while foisting the balance of his contract onto his new team.

Second, although the five-year extension has a $55 million new-money average, Lawrence had two years left on his rookie contract. It was a seven-year, $306.34 million deal with an average from signing of $43.763 million per year. With $39 million paid out in 2024, the contract has six years and $267.34 million remaining. That’s an average of $44.55 million — less than 75 percent of the current top of the market.

Disagree Ian, there are plenty of Jags fans, they just can’t read or write.

This is what happens when you grasp for regular season wins like the Steelers do. They put themselves in bad positions every single year and now are hoping to grab a QB and pray.
