OT: Skip Bayless Leaving ESPN

OK, I'll just leave that I disagree that people who have a different opinion about a football issue loaded with misinformation are worth zero. There are very few people in this world that are worth zero and comments about a football issue certainly wouldn't be my criteria.

if they are willing to trash someone else baselessly, then they are a huge part of what is wrong with our culture today. Aikman and Mortensen are worth zero

Hadn't thought of it that way, but...
Of course, they also ****canned Ray Lewis and Cris Carter...

For sure, they've been cutting talent across the board. Cord-cutters are hitting them hard, and their revenue is far below projections as a result. The talent that they've cut seems to fall into two camps: 1) failed to bring in ratings anyway, and therefore were just bloat, and 2) guys who did bring in money, but didn't toe the NFL line re: Brady.

Their opinions, sure, but there's a huge divide between saying "their opinions are worthless" and "I hope they die". I agree with the former, but the latter is so far beyond any concept of decency that it makes Aikman/Mortensen's initial sins look like small potatoes. By your own logic, I guess that means you deserve to die?

Cowherd offended their SJW sensibilities with his comment about the Dominican Republic's academics, and Simmons had been at odds with the ESPN brash since almost day one. With Grantland foundering, they cut the cord. Neither of those moves is likely to have been because of anything to do with Brady or the Patriots.

Simmons was suspended (and eventually fired, as that suspension never ended) the day after he called into a radio show and accused Goodell of lacking testicular fortitude. That came a few months after he dared ESPN to suspend him on his podcast for his aggressively negative take re: Goodell. By Simmons' own account, his firing was a direct result of what he said about Goodell.

Separately, there was nothing foundering about Grantland in that it achieved exactly what it was designed, pitched, and launched to achieve. It was a prestige site that succeeded in generating a great deal of prestige for ESPN's online brand. It wasn't a significant money-maker, but that was never the main intent, and it was known from day one that it likely never would be. ESPN cut Grantland for two reasons: 1) a harsher economic environment for ESPN made it reevaluate its expenditures, and prestige projects are typically the first to go in these circumstances, and 2) without Simmons at the helm, there was virtually nothing tying Grantland back to ESPN anyway.

people who place zero value on the life of another (and that's what both aikman and mortensen did) when they threw brady under the bus, have lives that are worth zero .... they can go now and leave the rest of the herd

oh, i understand the confusion here--when people say they threw brady under the bus, it wasn't a real bus. that's just a figure of speech. they didn't actually place zero value on brady's life by throwing him under an actual moving bus. that would be really cruel and heartless. if they actually did that, you're right, they deserve to die.

Yes, criticism of the NFL gets you in trouble at ESPN. That's not news, it's not just Patriots related, and it's not the only problem the ESPN execs had with Simmons. As for the rest:

I'll remember that next time you trash someone on this board.
But hey, you have a right to your opinion, even if it is inhuman.

not at all......I have never tried to benefit at the expense of another

hoping that they die from their sins is somewhat metaphorical such that when they die, my hope is that the last thought they take with them is what ****heads they are

by that measure, half the board should be dead from trashing me

finally.......someone who gets it

guys.......don't forget that both aikman and mortensen are in the fabric of what the league did to brady........

there are plenty here that would like to see goodell dead........those 2 belong in the same boat

Bit of a straw man there. I never addressed Aikman's douchiness. That's YOUR invention. Don't put words in my mouth.
I never said you claimed Aikman was a douche. That was completely my addition. Read the link.

Come on. There was no need to write anything about it the book when there was absolutely nothing to back it up.
It's the dudes life, and being a gay NFL QB in 1996 would have had caused him to be ostracized.
Very irresponsible but at the same time he also wrote how even though there was no confirmation someone said he was a racist too.
Did you even read the article?

Yeah, but that's the REAL indictment. The fact is you don't print even a repeat of a rumor in you book without knowing the fallout that it is going to cause. That just show just what a troll Bayless is. He KNEW the impact it would have, and then like a coward covered his ass by making the claim once removed. When you think about it, it is actually worse than if he made the claim on his own.

The real crime here is the fact week give these assholes an audience for their dreck. You wouldn't believe how the quality of my life has improved since I stopped watching ESPN or TV sports shows, or listening to radio.

Disclaimer: I do watch CSN or NESN for highlights, or if I'm stuck in the car, I'll check WEEI or 98.5, but if they aren't interviewing someone I think might be interesting, then I go back to NPR or WROR
Did you even read the article? It was and indictment on the ones spreading the rumors...

Bayless spread the rumor to the entire world

The nature in which he reported it depicted it as a viscous rumor started by enemies of Aikman. The opinions of those who can't make that distinction really don't matter anyway.

People comfortable with themselves and their own sexuality would chuckle if such a rumor were started about them. Not everyone is quite so developed.

Yes people were so enlightened in the 1990s that an NFL QB would chuckle about being called gay.
Just ask mike piazza

I'm guess you are under 20.

No it didn't. He threw it out there to get attention.
