Yes people were so enlightened in the 1990s that an NFL QB would chuckle about being called gay.
Just ask mike piazza

I'm guess you are under 20.
No. In fact, during the late 80s/early 90s, a douchebag started a rumor in high school that I was gay. I though it was hilarious.

No it didn't. He threw it out there to get attention.
If that is true, then the article supposedly meant to clarify the issue misquoted him. If the article didn't actually misquote him, then this is just typical Andy talk.

You weren't an NFL QB

The article was written by an admitted bayless fan/supporter and didn't quite him it excerpted from his book.
It doesn't really matter how he framed it he furthered an untrue rumor that he knew was untrue.
The guy is slime. Not sure why you feel the need to defend him.

Right, I was a sophomore in high school. You'd think a guy with fame and millions could handle it as well 15 year old.

I never said Bayless wasn't a douche, and the way he framed it certainly mattered... at least to those capable of making the distinction.

It has nothing to do with fame it had to do with being in an NFL locker room. NFL lockerrooms in the 1990s were exceedingly homophobic. Hell they were 5 or 10 years ago.

There is no distinction to make. It wasn't true he knew it wasn't true it damaged the mans reputation and he did it any way. For no reason.

Right, and high school in 89/90 wasn't. If Bayless had heard the rumors spread in the building, the guys in the locker room probably did too. Then and now, insecure people make far too big a deal about sexuality.

Disclaimer: If Bayless really did simply spread it without the framing, Aikman would have a legit gripe.

His rep was only damaged to those who are douchebags. The fact that very few people believed it in the first place proves the point.

What are you talking about framing?
He had no business writing it because it was not true and it was harmful to aikman.
So you think it's ok to spread a known lie about someone as long as you say what the source was?
That is irresponsible.

Not sure why you feel you get to decide how troy aikman should feel about being called gay when he isn't.

It's not aikman fault that people are/were not supportive of gays.
It is bayless' fault that he subjected aikman to it for no reason.

How is it a fact very few people believed it? The very article you cite says it was widely believed in Dallas. Did you read the article?

First off, Skip didn't call him gay. If your argument was sound, you wouldn't need to make false claims.

To call out the people for starting a ******** rumor as well as pointing out that the rumor is garbage is distinctly different from simply spreading a rumor. Since you are unable to make that distinction, I think this conversation has run it's course.

I didn't say that. if your argument was sound you would make one instead of parsing words.

If that was what he did you would have a point but of course that's not what he did. So you don't.

I did read the article, did you? Not sure where it said it was widely believed. It did say this, however.

"For his part, Bayless countered that the rumor had been floating around Dallas for years (he’s right about that, as I can attest) and that he’d done the legwork to try to figure out if it was true."

People around Dallas might* have thought it was true, but anyone I've ever watched or talked football with dismissed the rumor as ********.

I must have misinterpreted this then, since I was discussing his beef with Bayless. "Not sure why you feel you get to decide how troy aikman should feel about being called gay"

Didn't you already say the framing doesn't matter? Classic Andy moving the goalposts.

I think you are misunderstanding the difference between the authors defending bayless and what bayless actually did.

You should read the 6 pages not his friends defense of what he thinks they meant.

Aikman was being called gay and bayless wrote about it.

Framing doesn't matter. You incorrectly used something I didn't say to imply my argument was weak. You were wrong.[/QUOTE]

Have you read those 6 pages? If not, then stop ****ing citing them. As I said in one of the first posts, if the article is misquoting Bayless, then Aikmen has a legit right to be pissed.

If I had access to those six pages, I would absolutely read them, but I'm certainly not going to buy a book written by that douchebag. I'll take the article at face value since, if it were wrong, it would likely have already been disproven in the media.
