Re: OT: Schefter: Mike Vick just got 6 years, $100 million, $40 million guaranteed

Lenoard Little is the biggest scum POS ever. He should have gone to prison esp after his second DUI.

Agreed, the second DUI pretty much eliminates the "terrible mistake that he honestly wished he could make up for" possibility.

I think Vick is overrated.. will probably play less than two thirds of the snaps for the length of the contract (even if he plays the 6 years). I own two dogs and I think what he did was horrible. But he served his time and punishment. Good for him for turning his life around, It's America after all.

What I don't understand is the need by some people to give Vick's crimes false context by comparing them to the crimes and alleged crimes of other athletes. There's this odd notion that because Vick killed and tortured many dogs it must be compared to those who killed or raped a human being, leading to the equally odd conclusion that Vick is not so bad after all by comparison. News flash: Little, Lewis, Roethlisberger, Simpson, etc., etc. have NOTHING TO DO with Vick.

True Story!! :rocker:

Those who have gotten their faces shoved in it allways scramble to redirect the conversation.

...

This Vick contract is great news !
I now have even more reasons to hate the man !

Break a leg Michael !

What's so odd about that? Comparing similar crimes, etc.

leading to the equally odd conclusion that Vick is not so bad after all by comparison.

Where did I say that? I do think that killing people is worse than killing dogs, but they're both pretty awful. I'm more asking it in the other direction: why doesn't Ray Lewis get this kind of treatment?

Because Ray Lewis was not tried on murder charges or convicted. What's more, he paid a lot of money to the victims' families.

First off..Vick is a scum, and he may have "paid his debt to society" but anyone who watched an interview with him can see that he does not care, or feel sorry for what he did.

but anyway..back to fooball..he is overrated with the best of them. He wont play more than 12 games a year, and if Reed is objective at all, VY should beat him out because he is better than Vick.

Vick maybe the only starting qb in the nfl that is not better than Sanchez.

I guess me and Skip Bayless really are the only ones that remember how he TOTALLY FELL OFF at the end of last year.. he had like 11 picks in 1 second of play at the end. He lost games for his team, and it was a JOKE that he was even talked about as being the MVP over brady.

You're calling Vick a sociopath. Do you have the court ordered psychiatric evaluation which verifies that?

If Vince Young is starting by the end of the season due to Vick's 12 TDs and 17 INTs by week 12, I will piss in my pants laughing that hard.

Deus, every now and then you post provocative nonsense I'm guessing just for the hell of it. If you harbor serious doubt that what Michael Vick did to dogs indicates severe psycho-social disorder, I can't help you. We're talking about dipping dogs in water so they could be electrocuted, hanging them by the neck and watching them struggle before they die, slitting their throats, smashing their heads in, body slamming them to the ground, etc., etc. It was confirmed that he did these things. Be your own judge.

You are using a specific term, without demonstrating an 'official' finding, yet you're dismissing the comments of others calling Lewis a murderer. Your claim is no better than theirs if you can't post a specific finding of it. That's why I asked you about it.

Nobody's trying to say that there aren't worse scumbags than Vick.

But I, for one, am saying that Vick is a vile SCUMBAG.

To defend him by a pathetic attempt to change the subject is contemptible.

Re: OT: Schefter: Mike Vick just got 6 years, $100 million, $40 million guaranteed

This is a worn out and tired subject. Love him, hate him... who cares. Vick earned this contract by hard work and sheer athleticism. If he gets the Eagles that Super Bowl trophy, good for them. If he doesn't.. well, it's their money and not mine

As an interesting point: if it had been almost any other animal other than dogs, I don't think the outcry would have been as bad as it was.

Thing is, though, that many, many people in this country have dogs as pets. And many of them treat pets as, essentially, a member of the family.

Agreed. I hate animals. Dogs in particular. But I'd never, ever hurt an animal. Hell, I avoid moles when driving my car.

But do we really think the Eagles should be investing so heavily in a QB who's potentially going to get hurt, hasn't had a long history of success (though to be fair, when he HAS been, it's been impressive)... ?

Good for Philly if it works out, but I'm not sure they are going to get their money's worth.

Hmm. OK, I'll split hairs with you: What Vick did was confirmed on the record in a court of law. His behavior in the course of committing the crimes of which he was convicted (and subsequently involving both investigators and his employer) indicates psychopathy/sociopathy per common definitions:

Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by selfishness, ruthlessness and the inability to feel guilt or empathy. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, published by the American Psychiatric Association, formally categorizes sociopathy as a form of antisocial personality disorder. It also lists a specific series of traits that can define a sociopath: Charisma -- Sociopaths tend to be very charming and charismatic, which helps mask their darker traits. Grandiosity -- A sociopath has an unnaturally inflated view of his self-importance and often believes that the rules of society don't apply to him. The grandiosity often translates into unrealistic long-term goals. Lying -- Lying comes very easily to sociopaths, and many are expert con artists. They often use their lies to exploit and manipulate those around them. Impulse Control -- Sociopaths have a very difficult time controlling their urges. Coupled with their disregard for rules, this often gets them into trouble with the law. Irresponsibility -- Few sociopaths are capable of acknowledging their mistakes or taking responsibility for their actions.

Vick was not accused of being a psychopath/sociopath, which is not a crime unto itself and would not result in an "official" finding. He was accused of crimes and behavior fitting the profile of someone with that personality disorder.

Regarding Ray Lewis: He very well might be a murderer, but I haven't seen evidence of that on the record in a court of law. Show me testimony that puts the knife in Lewis' hand and I'll accede your point. Otherwise, you're reaching for something that so far doesn't make much sense.

Burden of proof only applies to people who disagree with him.

Read my post #55 and tell me where you disagree.

I don't think it's by any means a given that dogfighting = sociopath.

Do you think that participating in ****fighting inevitably means the same? How about hunting for sport?

I think Vick has/had terrible judgment, little to no accountability, and clearly very little empathy. He did awful things that make me profoundly dislike him as a person, but to say that that's synonymous with both psychopath and sociopath trivilializes both of the latter two terms. I'm from Maine; I've known plenty of people who hunted for sport and genuinely enjoyed killing animals for its own sake. I always found it pretty disturbing, but I wouldn't call them sociopaths necessarily. They just had very limited perspective, a lot of cultural conditioning, and little inherent respect for non-human life. I don't know if Vick is more like them or the psychopath that you claim he is, but the fact is that you don't know either.

And one again, since I know this will get misconstrued, I'm not trying to defend Vick. The guy is a scumbag. I'm just objecting to the idea that scumbag is synonymous with sociopath and psychopath.

There's plenty of evidence. One witness claimed that he saw Lewis stab someone, the suit that he was wearing at the time was never found, one person's testimony changed over time in Lewis' favor, he was convicted of obstructing justice for giving false statements to police following the murder, and the case didn't go forward only because he agreed to flip on the other two people in exchange for a lesser charge.

Leonard Little drove drunk, killed a woman, then drove drunk again to prove that he wasn't remorseful for it. Having the venomous opinion of Vick that you have is fine- that's absolutely your right, and I don't really even disagree with you. I just can't figure out why guys like Lewis and Little are spared from similar wrath.
