According to the National Weather Service, there was/is no rip tide warning issued. Where are you reading this?

Terrible news my condolences to his family.

“…people visiting the beaches needed to take responsibility for their actions…”

our social safety net has been defeating Darwinian selection.

death is the ultimate accountability Holding peo0le responsible for their actions.

They were saying there's a big current going on there.
Rip currents kill. A lot of people have been killed by them where I live, as well as in Fla. You can escape them but you need to know how to. Damn shame

Sad story. RIP.

I didn't realize rip currents were so common in the Gulf. When I have visited Gulf beaches it has always been like a calm bathtub, at least compared to Atlantic beaches.

RIP. You guys who want to "hold accountable" a dead man for being dead -- without even any evidence of whatever you're "charging" him with -- I dunno. I guess if it's a celebrity and you're randomly typing comments online, it's nauseating but probably won't reach their loved ones.

Isn't it enough to say that's terrible at any age, but especially at just 35?

I don't know if Marquise Hill has been mentioned in this thread. Also a shocking loss back in the day.

My two cousins were lifeguards in Atlantic City, they have a ton of stories of people they saved and couldn't. Rip tides are super dangerous.

Josh McDaniels on Ryan Mallett:

“At that point in time it was Tom and Brian as starter and backup. Ryan wasn’t getting a lot of work, so I started working with him and he was eager to try to pick up the whole system. You could tell how much he loved football,” McDaniels said.
“Good guy, everybody liked him, easy to get along with, connected with everybody. He just had a natural Southern way about him. Nothing was too stressed, but he wanted to work hard and get better. He was a great kid, and it's just really sad.”

I read it was exhaustion and not strong currents, aka riptides, that caused him to perish. RIP, Ryan. You were a sweet kid. Drownings happen so fast and, unlike the movies, are quiet affairs.

One of my sons almost died mere feet from me over 20 years ago in a lake. I got to him just as he was inhaling water.

Still causes anxiety to this day.

Our oldest son saved our youngest when they were very young. My wife and her friend were too busy sipping drinks and gabbing beside the pool to notice him, a non-swimmer at the time, jump into the pool and go right to the bottom. Our oldest jumped in and brought him to the surface.

I have 3 close friends who have lost sons in the last few years, ages 35, 40 and 42. One of the sadder things is that whenever we hear of such a young person dying many folks first reaction is to think drugs or booze.

RIP Ryan.
