I've said for a year they should be trading all of their older assets for draft picks and starting over. They didn't in 2020 and now look where they are...even more holes, a worse roster, fewer opportunities to flip those players for picks. Now there's all this cap space not allotted to their own guys; that's a very bad situation to be in. A "cap reset" is actually the worst position to be in where you have too much money to spend on free agency, which by its nature gives poor returns.
The Bucs should be looking at elite, veteran players since their roster is so complete and middle-class guys won't improve them.
The Patriots should be looking at finding some higher-upside, younger players (first non-rookie contract) and trying for 4-year deals. It's okay if they overpay for potential right now.
You should give up on the 2021 season, too, in terms of being focused on the win/loss results. It will be better for the Patriots in the long run to prioritize future potential value over present established value. It will also be a lot more fun for us all to watch the team re-invent itself as players start to gel, rather than watching a team without much future optimism struggle to win 8 games.
If Bill can't see that, he really does need to bring some new football people in to check and balance his oversight. Sometimes wisdom is doing the obvious thing when the situation calls for it, rather than playing a contrarian strategy to your own demise.
