OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Tompa was seething at the presence of JG on the roster so I can just imagine what the dynamic would have been like with Jackson who was much more likely to be Brady's replacement than JG was. Not good. I suspect that was one factor why the Patriots said no to Jackson though they'd never admit it.

So far your speculation and predictions have gone really well...keep up the great work.

I'm not predicting anything. I'm saying it could have been a factor. Brady didn't want JG here, why would Lamar be any different?

Plus I was going to leave you all here to have your own play place, because you are too sad to go to the Bucs forum to speak of your teams greatness, but AM decided to call me out after your amazing comeback victory over the might 1-3 chargers. Of course their DVOA is much greater than the Seahawks and Chiefs.

You're a clownish troll. There was no way you were going to "leave you all here to have your own play place", because you are who you are. But perhaps, just perhaps, now that you're acknowledging that you're here just to bother people in the thread, the mods will finally decide to deal with you.

Let's slow this down a little bit because I see you are still not grasping it...

DVOA stands for...wait for it... Defense-adjusted Value Over Average. It is also used to measure offense in relation to defense.

DVOA...read this slowly... takes into account that the Chargers are the Chargers when rating the performance of the Buccaneers on both sides of the ball.

Do you understand the concept now?

Howard officially put on IR. 3rd time in 4 years his season has ended with an injury. I hope he can recover from this one...can be devastating. Howard's speed was impressive for a guy that big.

We'll see if Gronk and/or Brate have been running routes more by design (Howard is really the pass catcher) or if they just lack the speed. It would seem at first glance that Tampa's depth should soften the blow.

I agree he was surprisingly fast and I don't think they can replace him with how Gronk is playing LT now.

I've been a big fan of Brate for years, I guess we will see if he is still able to carry a bigger load for the tight ends. As much as it pains me to say Gronk looks like he cant run.

DVOA updates...look at the dropoff from 11 to 12.

So what is your point? Don't even try?

My point is, when you have the greatest QB of all time, don't expend 1st rounders on a guy guaranteed to sit the bench. Win more Super Bowls instead.

The Garopolo pick had a lot of detractors here no matter how good Garopolo was. And we know from the whole conversation between Shanahan and Belichick that even 3 or 4 years into Jimmy G's career, the 49ers would have preferred Brady over him. & hell, Belichick scoffed at their trade offer for Brady.

This tells me that a lot of coaches want to win right now--and I don't blame them at all. SB victories are hard to accomplish. Personally, I think GB is totally stupid for expending a 1st rounder on Jordan Love.

Ah, I understand where you are coming from now. I agree for the most part but when your starting QB is 40 and you know you are not extending him and he has 3 years left on his deal, you have to draft the next guy. He did when Brady was age 37 and got Jimmy so I don't understand why he did not do it again after he traded Jimmy in 2017. This is why we are in the mess we are in now with no young guy to develop and looking at potentially having to pay Cam around $30 mil a year to keep him beyond this year.

Go away Deuce your stick used to be entertaining, now you are just old and grumpy. You promised to leave when Tom left, why don't you just do that instead of bringing your caustic negativity to a patriots board?

I agree that they are really stupid for spending a first round pick on Love...but it's not because of the idea of replacing Rodgers in a year or two based on his level of play...that seemed like a very reasonable idea before this season. Rodgers has had very pedestrian statistics since roughly 2015 when you look at his adjusted yards/attempt and the offense's production. In hindsight, it looks like Rodgers is finally returning to superstar form.

However, what made this pick really bad, in my opinion, is that Rodgers contract makes him virtually un-releasable and un-tradeable until 2023 (or 2022 with a 17M cap hit, which would seem like an unlikely move.) Rodgers signed that gigantic extension before the 2019 season. The team committed to him long-term at that time with almost no way out.

It's possible they'll try to bring Love along for 3-4 yeas like they did with Rodgers/Favre, but I don't think that's a good use of a first round pick, on a prospect who didn't seem to stand out so much, when you could probably find a guy with Love's talent closer to that 2022/23 time frame when Rodgers will be on his way out. The team was just in the NFC Championship Game last season, so using a first round pick for a long-term investment is a terrible move.

I would guess that based on Rodgers contract extension followed by the Love draft pick, there is some major dysfunction in the Packers organization with a Rodgers camp and an anti-Rodgers camp.

He has been in the Tompa thread adding info/insights about Tompa. What exactly are you doing here?

Thanks for proving my point so quickly.

It is so cute when you say "we" when we know you don't really mean that.

Do you spend a late 1st round pick on a player who probably has a 70% chance of sucking, or do yo spend it on a player who will probable make some kind of impact on the team. That was the dilemma faced by the patriots, especially when they had a qb who was still playing at a very high level. If there was some kind of guarantee that the qb you draft with the last pick in the first round is going to be special you do that. However, as people have shown, after the top 2 or 3 prospects it seems like a crap shoot at best.

That is what Bill is paid to do. Find the next guy. He is the one that said you want to be early on getting the next QB when he drafted Jimmy when Brady was 37. I am not hung up necessarily spending a ton of draft capital per se but to have only spent a 7 and a 4 on QBs the last 3 drafts when Bill was not extending Brady is why the Patriots are in this situation right now.

It is simple, you could take this to the tampa board, you could take it to the NFL board on this site, or you could simply stop tagging me in your silly old posts. Ian should be ashamed of himself for letting this be on the main board, but since he has, I will leave you all to play. Of course this all started with me saying Brady might not get better as the season goes on because he has been injured the past couple years. And that being 3-1 doesn't mean you are going to win the superbowl, which got you all really upset. I can understand AM getting mad, his Bucs haven't done anything for a long time. The rest of you just leave me smh.

Yes, but that is much easier said then done. If the only relatively sure thing is a upper 1st rounder, then why waste a 2nd, or a low first or a third? Players that probably will help your team. I am not sure what the real answer is, spending top draft capital on big question marks is never a recipe for success. Isn't it almost better to get the rest of the team to a really high level and then bring in a jag qb. Isn't that kind of what San Fran did, unless you think jimmy G is a great qb?
