OT: Jets exodus... so far, Mangold, Folk, Revis, Marshall... now Eric Decker looks to be next...

Guess I am finally going to have to admit that Felger was right and Belichick wrong about the best way to build a championship team.

Decker would be a nice addition but I'd guess his wife's career probably would make them inclined to stay in NY or go to one of the LA teams.

...or the Titans. Shes a country/western crossover chick.

I'm genuinely interested to know why you're so emphatically against Decker, Deus. He seems a better fit than Marshall.

Decker is a guy who usually comes up small in big situations.

The Patriots also already have their version of Decker. They've got Hogan.

What the Patriots need is a legit OWR1 a/k/a high end middle-deep threat. They need to start looking for the next Brown/Welker/Edelman, too but that's a separate WR issue.

The more I think about it, the more I'd be surprised if Revis came back. Leaving out that I don't think Revis has any interest in working hard ever again I think his deflategate comments would make it hard.

I remember thinking Belichick would have no qualms about bringing in someone who called him a jerk because Belichick wants to win. But he also understands managing a locker room, which is something I think he absolutely does. It's part of why we rarely open up the wallet for big name outsiders - because when you've been busting your ass for this team and suddenly they give someone else more than you it can have a bad effect on the locker room.

Revis' deflategate comments might be too big of a possible issue.

Decker definitely intrigues me. He looks like a good fit for this offense, especially if Floyd isn't retained.
Agreed. If there's anything left in the tank, he could be Hogan 2.0.

Always a little worried when they start to rebuild. There's always that odd chance that the stopped clock will be right this time and they'll blunder into some good moves.

That 2015 offseason class was possibly the dumbest, most short-sighted way to build a team I have ever seen, or at least one the most inexcusable given the lessons learned at the point in time. I wrote extensively about it on this board, scratching my head about how they were paying Revis and Cromartie when they were over 30 than when they were 26, and why on earth they were trying to build a nucleus around guys who had 1-2 years left at best. They reached their max potential in 2015, a bubble playoff contender. Why bother?

Of course, the NY media ate up every move, not just by the Jets but by the Dolphins and Bills as well. As you recall, there was about to be a big shift in power in the AFC East.

Woody Johnson's terrible. Hope he remains the owner.

Having cap space is great, but if it comes at the expense of having a team... not so much.

Still feel high's the most important player in FA. I really hope they can bring him back.

Decker's a very good player, but the Patriots already have two players in Mitchell and Hogan who fill the same role. Marshall would make more sense, but comes with substantially more question marks and might cost more.

Understood.

Even some of their die-hard fans I know down here in NYC accept that they are in pretty much a total rebuild mode.

The only thing I worry about is that with Woody Johnson in London and out of the picture, there might actually be a chance that they won't totally screw it up. The good news of course is that they still don't have a QB or HC, thanks in large part to Woody's pandering to the fans over the years to sell PSL's. It's all fallen apart now and he's skipping town.

When the Quarterback situation has people longing for the good old days of Mark Sanchez, you know they have a problem. My impression of Bowles is that he is mediocre at best, but that they couldn't clean house and get rid of him this year since there was no way he could be blamed for the lack of talent on the field.

But if they clear cap space, bite the bullet on Bowles, keep their heads about them and commit themselves to a three year rebuild, they could be competitive in 2020. But, the fanbase is too addled to stand for anything that sensible, so Woody will meddle and they'll start doing dumb things again.

Isn't Decker turning 30, coming off two surgeries last year, and supposed to miss training camp this year due to recovery? Those are pretty compelling reasons not to sign him.

On the plus side, his wife is a total smokeshow.

Still, IMO, a dumb move. He always gave us trouble, even more than Marshall did, I'd daresay.

That's pretty much the definition of a "Total Rebuild."

There's a Toby Keith's right outside Gillette.
