Belichicks 1st Round Picks have been very good. He also is picking late in the first round every year. IMO, he is the best in the league at rebuilding his team through the draft.
Seymour
Graham
Ty Warren
Vince Wilfork
Ben Watson
Logan Mankins
Laurence Maroney
Brandon Meriweather
Jerod Mayo
Devin McCourty
Nate Solder
Chandler Jones
Donta Hightower
Dominic Easley
Malcom Brown
Ignoring Brown, with whom it's too early to tell...
Busts: Maroney, Meriweather, Easley
Replacement-level: Graham, Watson, Solder
Good players: Warren, Mayo, McCourty, Jones
Blue chips: Seymour, Wilfork, Mankins, Hightower
They probably hit on a higher percentage of these picks than other teams (over half were above-average players; only about 1 in 5 were busts), but they're also not really an outlier. They also probably hit on a lower percentage of second and third round picks than most teams:
Klemm
Redmond
Light
Williams
Branch
Wilson
B.Johnson
Hill
Scott
Hobbs
Kaczur
Jackson
Thomas
Wheatley
Crable
Chung
Brace
Butler
Vollmer
Tate
McKenzie
Gronkowski
Cunningham
Spikes
Price
Dowling
Vereen
Ridley
Mallett
T.Wilson
Bequette
Collins
Dobson
Ryan
Harmon
[Garoppolo]
[Richards]
[Grissom]
(Last three probably too early to tell)
But among these, you have...
Busts: Klemm, Redmond, Williams, Johnson, Hill, Scott, Jackson, Thomas, Wheatley, Crable, Brace, Butler, Tate, McKenzie, Cunningham, Price, Dowling, Mallett, Wilson, Bequette, Chung (prior to return)
Replacement-level: Hobbs, Kaczur, Harmon, Ryan, Dobson(?)
Good players: Spikes, Ridley, Vereen, Wilson
Blue chip: Gronkowski, Vollmer, Collins, Branch, Light
So in the second and third rounds, only about 1 in 3 players drafted ever provided a contribution around what could be expected from their draft position. This is maybe at or below the league average, though of course it's certainly helped by the fact that there were a number of Pro Bowl-caliber players drafted in these rounds, at least 1 every 4 years or so.
