OT: Carr officially released

Kind of OT, but why did the Raiders front office make such a ceremonious stink about benching him, like a punishment, so late in the season? It seems like they could've been a bit more tactful in his departure, like just quietly waiting for the season to end and parting ways. And maybe get something for him?
I thought they were low-key about it.

It was Carr who excused himself from the team and drew attention to his situation.

Wait a minute! When did McDaniels trading away Jay Culter become a monumental mistake? Was it Culter’s Brady-like work ethic that he brought to the game or all those playoff and Super Bowl wins he brought to the Bears.

McDaniels‘ tenure in Denver was a disaster, but trading away Cutler might have been the best thing he did for Denver. Chicago got nearly a decade’s worth of average to mediocre QB play out of him. If the Broncos kept Culter, they may not have gotten Manning and the two Super. Bowl appearances and one win.

I don’t think Carr is going to win you a Super Bowl. That being said, if he goes to the NFC South, he is immediately the best QB in that division.

Raiders could have played this better, now they got squat for him and only have Stiddy.
Stidham is a free agent.

If Joe Montana came out of retirement and went to the NFC South, he would immediately become the best QB in the division.

There’s a connection there with new Jets passing game coordinator Todd Downing, who was Carr’s QB coach in 2015 and 2016 and OC in 2017.

But the new juicy rumor out of New York is that they might actually be interested in Downing’s most recent QB, Ryan Tannehill. That would be…something. I’m not sure what, but definitely something.
Tannehill sucks. He shouldn't be starting for any NFL team. The Jets may as well as just start Mike White if they're seriously looking at Tannehill.

McDaniels made quick decision Raiders are going to be Major players in FA.
I would say, look at the rest of that roster though outside of Max Crosby on defense as well. It was a bad roster masked by 2-3 big stars.

I'm putting that on McDaniels. If he doesn't turn things around next season then he should be fired and never allowed a head coaching job ever again.

Derek Carr personally lost them the game in ****tsdirt that kept them out of the POs.

Right, that was ugly. Carr is generally pretty good about not turning the ball over but when he does he loses. He's 4-22 in games with 2 or 3 INTs. He's above .500 in games with 1 or 0 INTs.

I think Carr can be a very good QB in the right situation. He's always been dealt with a horrible defense.

McDaniels knows QBs. I read Carr's field vision is limited like Cam's. Doubtful Carr will ever be great if McDaniels gave up on him. But Carr has a good arm and is an accurate passing QB. JG would probably be very good with McDaniels and cost a lot less.
