OT: Brandon Marshall to Miami for 2010 2nd and 2011 2nd

So I will ask you again, WHAT FREAKIN' DIFFERENCE did he make in Denver in the last three seasons??? Did he win Shanny Coach of the Year? Or did his HC get fired because his team couldn't compete?? Did he come up big on teams that seemed to choke away division leads down the stretch season after season? This kid is not a good teamate on so many levels. Does Miami have the infrastructure to manage him? In the FO the believe they do, but that may be a case of wishful ego. In the locker room, not so much... If they don't "take care of him" contractually, he will pout and act out as he did in Denver. If they do, better hire security to tail his entourage.

We could say the same thing about Moss and Dillon...they appeared to be potential locker room cancers but we picked them up....sometimes you have to take chances if your team is strong enough to handle it.

Parcells left NE because he wanted total control of the team, the kind of control Belichick has now. I think Parcell's has proven that he's one of the best talent evaluators of this era.

I agree that was a pretty moronic thing for MLR to say, but that's to be expected.

Another thing that is pretty moronic is how he makes it seem like Brandon Marshall should have carried the team single-handedly to a Super Bowl title. We don't even have anyone that can do that, anymore.

So... I know I should be despondent today because the Jets AND the Fins have proven once again that they know how to construct a championship caliber team and the PAtriots are obvious amateurs in this area..just look at their glorious recent histories.....

I do find it quite amusing that some of you are holding on to our draft picks being a factor this season for a SB run...draft picks usually pan out in productivity in 2-3 years at the earliest...what we have as a nucleus of a team right now is what we have,draft picks may help a little but us usual they won't be much of a huge difference maker......if this team is going to be better than 3rd in the East I would hope for some kind of two or three good veteran trades at key positions to keep this team from dropping to 3rd,I would assume the team does something other than sign some JAGS in mid June and have hope that 4 rookies pan out.

Maybe the inevitable happens and the team has to sit back and watch others prosper again...If it happens,it happens,all Elite teams at some time do fall and realistic fans are ready for it.

Other than the ad nauseum homers who still believe this team is SB bound,fact is this team is getting less and less experienced with every proven veteran trade from other teams in the division who are getting a bit of both,I think a good part of the team is in rebuilding phase in force in 2010

While some here may ridicule chicken littles,....some here who are homer radicals are just as annoying and always feel the Pats will be on top as always are ignoring the possibility they may not be kings of the hill anymore and are building for the future while sacrifising the present for it to happen. - I really see no problem in stepping down off the perch for a year or two if it takes this team time to once again be an Elite team.

Some need to grow up and realize Elite teams and SB contenders don't last forever.

I think we all need to take a realistic approach to the next season,sit back and watch our new young players be the future of the next generation of the Patriots

I don't think those who you call the "homers" here are really saying that we are still in fine shape to win the superbowl. That would be idiotic. I think some of them merely saying something like "meh, BB and Co. are sticking with the 'formula' that has brought this team unprecedented success this decade."

Thing is, I'm not too bothered about what MIGHT happen in 2012or 2013 if we have a few less draft picks or some bad salaries we have to deal with. Boo hoo. Worrying about deviating from the "plan" hurting us down the road is a 'sky is falling' mentality in itself. Only real difference is it's a "chicken little" mentality over what MIGHT happen in the unforeseen future. LOL.

We are still good enough to contend this year IMO. But only with a lot of luck and a 2001-like gelling of the team at the right time will we actually make it. I agree that the draft is going to make very little difference in terms of how good we will be this year. Welker is more important, and getting Brady better weapons in both the passing and running game (as in sooner rather than later) are more important factors.

Realistically - the talent acquired by our divison rivals this season appears to make them much stronger and better than the Pats. We shall see how that translates during the season.

I agree, the Patriots drafting has been flawless as of late. Out of those fifteen pics they would be lucky to get one right. And if they do, it will only take two years for them to make any major impact on a SB run. Why take a proven commodity over the immense unknown? They are brilliant. Let all the other teams stock pile talent while you watch in amazement.......

And therein lies the problem.

You should be building a team, not stock-piling talent.

The Pats won the division last year (again), the Jets and the Dolphins didn't. They had to get better just to stand a chance of winning the division, because gift-wrapped spots for the Playoffs come around very rarely.

I'll tell you what son, give Bob Kraft a ring, tell him the coaching staff and management don't know what they're doing, and you'll do the job for a tenth of the cost.

First, the Pats gave up a fourth and had Moss under an one year very small money contract his first year here. They didn't risk anything by bringing him in and didn't give him a good deal until he proved himself. The Dolphins gave up two second rounders for Marshall and will likely make him one of the highest paid WRs in the league.

Second, Marshall is one step away from a serious suspension, has numerous off the field incidents including tons of violence to women charges and claims, and was caught on camera last year dogging it and being a spectacle in practice in training camp. He is more of a powder keg than Moss ever was. He might pull an Irving Fryar and find God in Miami and turn his life around. But the odds of him having a problem is far greater than it was with Moss.

While I am fine with BB keeping his formula for success,we could clearly see other teams are finding ways to either copycat it or defeat it...the Saints admitted they used a little of the Patriot way to get to a championship by taking time to pick up pieces of the puzzle little by little...other teams will follow...the Pats are not on an island by themselves anymore,we have company.

Second-Moss was near the end of his career while Brandon is at his peek prime. To suggest somehow that Miami made a bad decision by picking up one of the most productive receivers in the league for a couple second rounders is foolish. Moss at the time had major problems in Viking town and Oakland. Brandon's problems were only in one city not five, like Moss.

BB and Josh get on fine, they chatted every few weeks on the phone (no I can't be bothered to find the link). Bill would not have written a 5 page summary of every skill a NFL Head Coach needs, straight after the 2007 season ended, if he wasn't expecting to remain on good terms with McDaniels.

Josh stayed for the 2008 season and proved his ability by coaching up Matt Cassel. He went to Denver with the Patriots' blessing, everyone wished him luck. Yeah, he celebrated beating the Pats in Denver, but can you blame him? It was huge for him because it proved he was legit in the eyes of the Broncos' fans.

Brandon made some mistakes in one town while Moss laid waste in two.

Marshall is a proven player, but also a proven headcase one step away from a significant suspension. He isn't a Randy Moss or Corey Dillon with most of their problems behind them. His problems are pretty recent. If I was Parcells, I would be petrified of letting Marshall loose on South Beach.

The Dolphins' defense is currently a mess. They have no proven starter at OLB. They need to replace virtually their entire d-line. They need a starting FS. Yes, Marshall helps the team (as long as he can keep out of trouble), but does nothing to help that defense. The addition of Dansby doesn't fix all the problems they have on defense and they just gave up a high second this year (11th pick in the second in a deep draft) and second next year.

If you look at the Marshall trade in a bubble and ignore their offseason losses and needs going into the offseason, it makes them a contender for the AFC East crown. If you realized that they had taken a step back this offseason before this move, you would realize that they are at about where they were last year or slightly better.

I don't know enough about the Dolphins depth chart to speak on the backup players that would need to step in and contribute. Does Parcells think that these guys can play? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

And while I agree that Marshall has shown that he's immature, Parcells has also shown that he can get so called troublemakers to buy into what he's selling (TO excluded, who was brought in against Parcells' wishes by Jones).

Marshall is a proven WR and that was a hole the Dolphins were looking to fill. Yes they could have kept their draft picks and rolled the dice, but why take chances when you can get a sure thing?

If we had a chance to fill a hole, like pass rusher, and trade for a top 5 young OLB albeit some baggage (like Marshall), wouldn't you rather do that than take a chance on the draft?
