NFL News OT: Bears to cut Tremain Edwards

I think Ellis is on a 2 year contract Vrabel matched when he was going to sign with LV.. ?
Yeah, so he’s in the last year of the deal. At 26 he’s young enough to commit more years. No vet wants to play out the last year of their deal, it’s flying without a parachute.

He’s not a scheme fit in Vrabel’s system. They tend to use smallish Will inside LB’ers.

The Pats should extend Christian Ellis, he played great and earned some money. They should also add some prospects via the draft and value vet free agents.
Yes, it is the time to consider LB's on the last year of their contract: Elliss, Jennings and Mapu. If we want them for a couple of additional years, we should consider extension which should be inexpensive.

For Mapu, I would fill out his Home Depot job application. I would like to see us extend Elliss and Jennings.

Absolutely agree.. Ellis has played well under Vrabel and his staff our LBs are vastly underrated as well. Ellis can hit.

When healthy.
And motivated.

He's more of a 'prove-it' kind of guy to me. Got by a lot on measurables and potential for a long time.
In all actually can we say we have an elite defense that made it to the superbowl with the very same players we currently have? I saw a defense that was elite in the postseason and the very reason we advanced in the postseason as the offense was not the same offense we saw averaging 28ppg..

We will add at edge, LB, S the depth will project to be much better going into training camp 2026 as very expressed as much recently.. we play excellent TEAM defense without any all pro's not named Gonzo.. impressive..

I believe our LBs are vastly underrated.. once we can add depth at LB guys can be slotted in more naturally. I'm excited to see how the defense will get even better as a whole.

Can hit, man cover TE’s and RB’s and cleans up when frontline defenders miss tackles. He’s fast.
Absolutely.. we have had blue collar LBs before and BB Absolutely adored.. Chad brown, Monty beisel, to name a few.. you need the guys like Ellis on a team.. he may never be an all pro but he's becoming a solid veteran player who is getting better.

WE HAVE ELEVEN LB's (ILB's, EDGE, and OLB)
Surely a couple could be upgraded.
================
WE START WITH (3)
Chaisson, Landry, Spillane

I THINK THAT THESE ARE UNDERRATED AND WILL STAY (4)
Elliss, Gibbens, Tavai, Jennings

ARE THESE LB'S UNDERRATED?
Muma, Mapu, Swinson, Ponder

Our starting LB as you highlighted are underrated.. Ponder has a high ceiling is was impressive as a rookie... Swinson is an unknown... Mapu barely plays and muma is a STs player

So, you are saying that the starters are everrated.

To me, that means that we could really use 2-3 additional players, depending on Landry's health.

Referring to the guys BB used to value in blue collar players that weren't big names at LB.. but served a purpose during the early dynasty years
Chad Brown was regarded as one of the best in the game for a stretch in time in the 90's. By the time BB signed him, he was way past his expiration date. On the other hand, Monty Biesel was one of the most bizarre signings along with Beau Allen in 2020. Bill's management of the LB situation from 2005-2007 was malpractice. It absolutely cost them at least one Super Bowl.

I can always rely on you Rain! Always got the good stuff!! .. you are correct.. it was a conversation on LBs that really were just role players and not of all pro caliber..but BB got the best out of them or as you mentioned got them when they were on the back half of thier careers.. tons of players BB did that with... we were slow and old at LB in 2006-2007-2008.. Brandon spikes was a thumper man... could we say Hightower was probably the best LB we have had since teddy Bruschi?

We need speed, youth and Athleticism at LB.. who knows what Swinson will become?

Personally unless Landry comes into camp fully healthy.. hard for me to forsee him playing or being heavily involved than more than a rotational player if he's not fully healthy.. wich provided more opportunities for Ponder and Jennings.. I think we need 2-3 players in the front 7 anyway...

Our deepest unit is the defensive line..
Williams, Barmore, farmer,Durden, Tonga, Gregory.

We are thin at LB and CB.. we could also add to the Safety group as well.

I loved Brandon Spikes despite his limitations. He was a disrupter blowing up the LOS. He would've been a perfect fit in the 1st Dynasty 3-4 defense at ILB. I didn't like the Mayo pick in 2008 (I wanted Clady) and he didn't do much to change my mind as a player.

HT reminded me of Chris Slade. He played OLB and was an underrated rusher early in his career, but had to move to ILB because of Mayo's injuries.

Jamie Collins had his moments in from 2014-2015, but quickly went off a cliff.

But to answer your question, I agree that HT was the Pats best LB since Bruschi.

Yes spikes to had the knee issue and it impacted his career.. I think he had a 2nd stint here for a cup of coffee right? Collins was the ultimate tease... so much talent and athletic ability but after he had that strange illness he wasn't the same player.. he like butler turned down lucrative contract offers only to sign the same deals with lesser teams and Collins was on the Hugh Jackson Cleveland winless team..in 16..

High was just phenomenal player and great man.. I remember meeting him at the dedham legacy plaza one time.. just a great guy.. and great player.

Surely you can't be serious.
