Hello everyone, Happy Thanksgiving

I was speaking with my uncle yesterday (huge Pats fan, highly intelligent, works for a certain Bureau, a man I highly respect and admire)...

We were talking about the steelers colts game and how AL was out. He began singing his virtues, and I was a little surprised by his level of respect for Luck..

Don't get me wrong, he is a very talented QB and can make some spectacular plays, definitely top 10 in the league. But I've watched enough of him to know that his decision making is suspect, his field awareness and vision can be limited which leads to more and bigger hits, contributing to his repetitive injuries.

I understand the Colts are not a strong team, but I don't think Andrew Luck is quite the top tier QB he's made out to be.. Top 10? Sure. Anyone claiming Top 5? No. Too much Favre/Cutler, not enough Brady/Rodgers.

To be fair in most cases he is put into situations that require him to make absurd plays to keep the stinking carcass of a team afloat. I wonder if a lot of the negative things you mentioned are a product of that awful team he has around him.

I'd still take him over any of the other "next-gen" QBs (including Wilson) in the league.

His coach is awful. They put too much on him and don't know how to build a team around him. There are few QBs I'd take over luck.

Rodgers
Wilson
Brees
Dak
Ben
Cam? Not sure. He's kind of a whiner
Ryan
Carr

So definitely top 10. But considering Brees and Ben are older, top 5 for the considerable future.

Agree with everything you said-except the last sentence. Id take wilson over luck in a heartbeat.

Kirk Cousins
Andrew Luck
Matt Ryan
Derek Carr
Philip Rivers
Dak Prescott
Carson Palmer
Joe Flacco

Blake Bortles
Tyrod Taylor
Eli Manning
Marcus Maritota
Jameis Winston
Ryan Tannehill
Jay Cutler
Alex Smith
Brock Osweiler
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Colin Kaepernick
Trevor Sieman
Sam Bradford
Josh McCown

Not sure I'd agree I'd take him over Wilson but I agree with the rest. Environment is huge. His team is trash. His coach is meh and his GM has not gotten them any talent.

top 10 sure

i wish him nothing but misery though!

I could no longer respect an uncle that made such a foolish statement. Probably loves Dungy as well. Put him at the kids' table next Thanksgiving and tell him he can't return to the the adults' table until he starts making some sense.

See that's what's crazy, we agree on 99% of everything, especially nfl related.. But this one threw me for a loop

I like Luck, his talent is enormous and the vibe I get from him is he is working hard and a good team oriented guy. So for me he would be in the top 10 based on those qualities. I really think you can't understate how lousy the organization he plays for is. Their incompetence has been masked by being in the worst division in football, as it has been for many years. I think for Luck to get to the next level he needs to be in a division with legit challenges, which will force them to play balanced complimentary football. The owner, coach, and GM do not seem to know what those last 3 words really mean.

It's coinflip for me between him and Wilson. I get that some people feel stronger about one of them than others. Certainly nothing I would disagree about.

Luck hasn't done much to justify praise. Thus far we're still wading through the pile of hopes, dreams, and excuses projected on him. He's not a great QB now, he wasn't five years ago, and I don't see much evidence he will be five years from now.

He shouldn't sign another contract that includes Grigson working for that organization.

I get that. For me its a coinflip between Wilson or Luck but the latter somehow seems to be more of a football fanatic which is what gets me. If you think about it, Wilson has played in almost the perfect environment (minus the OL the last two years) to develop and thrive while Luck was stuck with the Grigson bunch.

Again, not trying to start a comparison here because it really doesn't matter that much to me. Personal flavour.

There are the first tier players (Brady, Big Ben, etc...). Luck is not there.
There are the second tier players (Wilson, Newton, etc...). Luck is there.

My only question about Luck is whether or not his NFL brain has been too set in the Colts stink. Guys like Matt Cassel (Chiefs) and David Carr (Texans) can tell you how damaging that sort of thing can be to a career.

Yeah unfortunately for Luck, Irsay is a moron and fired Polian. Polian's depth was never great but, he put together some great teams. Meanwhile Wilson is playing for a coach that may very well end up in Canton (and was probably two yard away from getting there already).

He does have the physical tools to be great, cannon arm, touch, accuracy, but being a HOF QB requires more than that, he insist in some stupid plays, forces passes he shouldn't and seem to not care about interceptions like they are willing to take that risk as being part of their game, I don't see how that can be acceptable.
