WEEI was/is in panic mode. They changed the format of the big show by getting rid of everybody but Ordway and teaming him up with Michael Holley in hopes of getting better ratings. They let that show run for a while and the rating were obviously not what they wanted so they finally fired Ordway Ask yourself this, would they have fired Ordway if he remained number one? Probabaly not.

They would not have been able to fire him if he remained number 1. It was because he fell in the ratings that they were able to exercise an escape clause in his contract.

What you call a "panic move" I call shaking things up and trying to save money. So there's no real reason to debate terminology.

Yeah, ok. Sports talk radio is just a bastion of well mannered, polite individuals who always let others speak their minds in a calm, rational way before offering insightful counterpoints. Everyone 'cept Ordway.

No, YOU made a blanket statement that all radio talk hosts run their shows the way Ordway did, i.e. constant interrupting of everyone, and that simply isn't true. Just listen to the other shows. Nobody talks over or shouts over callers/guests/co-hosts/flashboys like Ordway did. Nobody is close to O's insufferable style and that's saying something with Mike Salk around here.

People switched because people are idiots. Every daytime time slot was still a WEEI win in terms of what was actually on the air. The only person on 98.5 who was worth listening to, at all, was Zolak, but people being idiots, they went with the shiny new toy even though it was crap.

Well, Boston sports fans are now getting what they deserve, which is inferior radio from both stations.

Dale and Holley was a Great show. Bring it back for the lunchtime. That was the start of WEEI's fall from grace when that show was destroyed.

I have no problem saying I enjoy listening the Felger & Mazz, I don't agree with everything they say but they are entertaining which is all I should want out of a radio show. I think Wiggy is hilarious and has some great stories from his time in the NFL. I don't need Felger or Mazz to be cheerleaders for the team as that would get boring awfully quick. Beetle is sharp as a tack and also has a good sense of humor.

Ordway and Gresh were separated at birth, pompous blowhards who can barely conceal their disdain for anyone who dares to disagree with their opinions. Holley is good but the tone of Salk's voice is annoying and he constantly whines about being misinterpreted. Ironic that the same EEI manager who was smart enough to can the Big Mouth O was too dumb to realize that Salk is insufferable.

Gresh is one of the best on radio. He is intelligent and well spoken; too many judge him on his appearance instead of what he says. He has a face made for radio, as they say.

The "Big Show with the Big O" was the best sports show on radio when the Whinies were in full swing. I have never heard anything before or since that comes close. They did have too many commercials, but competition from The Sports Hub stopped that excess. There is a reason the Big Show got all those awards and high ratings, but the douches in management got greedy.

I can only dream of the Big Show coming back, but I would not blame Ordway for never trusting WEEI again. Hopefully he can start up his gig some other place.

I do not like Lou Merloni at all. He is a baseball geek, and he has a horrible regional accent. Frank from Glouchester has a horrible accent, but it is so bad it is funny; Lou is just icky. And listening to him talk about football is like listing to Michael Holley talk about Hockey.

Agree with you about Gresh. He's a pretty sharp guy who A) does the best Mayor Menino impersonation you'll ever hear and B) nails it with his Seinfeld references. I like the Gresh and Zo show. It's a fun listen and they do know the technical side of football. Their show above all others could be done in a pub somewhere. They are average Joe radio but that's not a criticism it's a compliment. Good show.

Last week Gresch went on a long term rant about bringing back Jerry Remy would cause RS fans to view this team with a "crooked eye"... then he went on to the Jenny Dell thing.

Gresch was a tool when he was on the old SCORE in RI, could not stomach him then and cannot stomach his bombasity now.. too loud, too sophomoric and always right..

Too much Wrestling and cartoons talk in my opinion.... drowns out Zolak.

I think Lou is extremely knowledgable when discussing football.

As for his Massachusetts accent, if you want to hear bad accents listen to Lenny Megliola or Larry Johnson on EEI. I heard Johnson say something like this the other day. "Dah Caroliner qwahdahbak hit his receevah with a showt pass for 6 yahds but was called back for innahpherence"

Having a thick accent doesn't mean they're not intelligent, it just makes them sound like they're not intelligent

I'd love to see Dale get back with Holley 10-2 ... I loved that show as it was all info and interviews .... then they need a total revamp of the 2-6 as Felger and Mazz just keep getting stronger in the ratings. Mazz drives me nuts I cannot listen to him ... I've learned to like Felger a bit ... he has gotten better ... but I will only watch when I am at my desk ... I won't listen to him or Mazz on the radio.
