Why did Hart Lee Dykes get his butt kicked in a bar by teammate Irving Fryer back in 1990? I was just reading up on this guy and seems like an interesting story

Actually Dykes and Fryar were involved in a fight with bar patrons (not with each other)after arguing over the Patriots. Dykes was outnumbered 5 to 1 and Fryar got his gun to rescue his teammate according to this news article...

Poor Irving. If he wasn't involved in some violent, drunk drugged up episode weekly back then, it was a shock. Sorry, the tone of the article is laughable.

Glad he straightened his life out.

Hart Lee? Why? I would guess arrogant, drunk and drugged up accident waiting to happen as well.

I have no specific knowledge, just the feeling that they were both "bad character" picks.

Of course they weren't alone. In the draft the Celtics picked Len Bias, I think the first 15 draft picks, excepting Chuck Person, totally washed out due to being cokeheads. (86 Patriots scandal also, of course).

That's a great story about Fryar. Heartless Dykes was a big disappointment. A 2nd round WR with impressive size and build, he was injured year after year and never played many games before being cut as a complete bust.

He was no Eugene Chung.

He actually fractured the same kneecap TWICE in consecutive seasons and never recovered.

i remember that draft pretty well. hart lee was our first rd pick taken a few spots ahead of rison, by indy. wanted to see who would do better but hart lee kept breaking his patella and rison kept getting his house burned down.
