Boutte has worked his butt off to save his career. I believe that he has earned a roster spot.

Yes, Chism looks awesome, but he is facing backups and guys who will be cut.
Can't control who the other team plays but fortunately there were also 2 joint sessions this week and he got some reps vs 1s on those days. In the past 8 days he first played well vs Washington then they gave him increased opportunities and he did well with it during the week. Following it all up with a very good game today.

With a roster spot on the line he stepped up and made his case. Roster made.

He was facing backups, but he himself is a backup. If a backup player is dominating other backup players then he’s worth keeping. We’re not saying he’s starting, just a guy worth keeping and working with.

It’s really obvious that he has exceptional field sense and instincts. As soon as he touches the ball he’s looking to make the most out of the play, and he’s a ***** to bring down. Like any other rookie there will be plenty for him to learn, but he’s shown he can take the coaching and turn it into better and better performances. And overall that’s my biggest takeaway from this draft class. It looks like they brought in a bunch of tough, smart players who will take the coaching and improve game to game, and ultimately to year to year.

Agree completely. As far as rookies go he has made one of the strongest cases for making the team that I have seen. I think they will know 95% of the guys making this team by Monday or Tuesday, and the 3rd game will start with the second string but the end of the roster guys will see most of the action.

He was such a bad edge-rusher that he had 3 sacks, 6 hits, and 22 hurries on 348 pass rush attempts. He also had 41 stops. Mind you. That's with no Barmore. No Bentley. No Gonzalez. Godchaux playing too much. And a lack of coaching,. He's improved every year since he was drafted.

He's an above average Edge guy who is very good against the run. He's never going to be Judon or LT, but he's not the scrub you want to make him out to be..

I agree, Jennings is a good depth player, and you have to have guys who can set the edge, it can’t just be all pass rush, as much as we enjoy that. Pretty much every unit needs role players, and he’s one of them.

The second half at center.
not true. lindstrom played most of the 4th`quarter

Yeah, but Jennings played all last year and was a bad edge rusher. He's beating backups at best. He's not a good pass rusher and won't be this year if he makes the team.
You are correct and don't let anyone else gaslight you into thinking otherwise.

I can get on board, but you need to define at what. I am a Jennings stan but he is not a better pass rusher than Chaisson

Edit: Jennings is a better edge setter, we need both types of players
Jennings is a better run defender by a lot.
Chiasson is a better pass rusher, not by a lot. Chaisson had 5 sacks in 4 years in Jacksonville before getting 5 last year with the Raiders. This ain’t Matt Judon we are talking about

I hope they do this to start every game this season. The players should run out right after this:

I think Wilson has the job, might have been banged up a bit this week... I think brown is worth keeping as depth, and could develop into a starter at some point
So why did Wilson play at Center?

Well he’s a Wes Welker or Danny Admendola clone, how did they do with top defenders on them?
It’s ridiculously early to compare him to Wes Welker and Danny Amendola, who by the way, weren’t clones of each other.

He might be the biggest camp disappointment for me. He was a binky. He was big, had some speed, and a good blocker and we need a good blocking TE. I thought he had a chance to make the roster as the possible 3rd TE/FB. The reality is he has not been close to even getting 4th quarter preseason snaps. Maybe he is so raw that they keep him on the PS because no else is going to want him.
He was also a draft binky of mine and I expected at least something out of him

If it's true that the Vikings didn't play any starters it was the Pats one's vs the Vikings 2's and it looked like it as the Pats dominated the first 3 series and got off to a quick start, even if the score didn't show it.

Even so I really wish Maye played more than 2 series, including one rather brief one. Every live rep he takes makes him better. Hits he'll take for his 2 high throws are ludicrous. They were his first throws of the day and even Brady often took a few throws to get comfortable. I mean did the Pats ALWAYS score on their first possession, or even half of them. It seems like people are just STRUGGLING for negatives.

The most important thing we should take from this game is whether Maye was calm and composed and. read his keys correctly and threw to the right man. Now only Josh will know for certain on each play, but it looked to this outside observer that he moved well in the pocket and looked cool and composed. His best play was when his elusiveness bought time and he hit Hollis for about 15yds. Of course there will be naysayers who weren't happy with the speed of the throw. as if style points matter.

Henderson, really IS exciting and seems to prove it nearly every time he steps on the field. Clearly he will be the Pats rookie who will make the most immediate impact on this team as RB's often can. Perhaps even more impressive than the TD run, I saw him stop another pass rusher dead in his tracks I really like how ALL the RB's have looked. Gibson look great and Hasty, who might not make the team, continued the great play we have gotten from the RB's this camp. (I thought Larison was a better shot to make the team than Chism before he was IRed) I guess that's why RB's don't get paid. There is just so many good ones out there.

I wouldn't have hated it if Campbell had gotten more than just 17 snaps, but as he seemed to have done so far, he got better this time than the last. I think that will be his future. It won't always be perfect. But he will take every adversity and be better for it. I'm getting more and more comfortable with him being the LT.

Strange came into the game the 3rd series. I'm too lazy to go back and look (and I forgot to record the game) but I wonder how he did. I'd also like to look more closely at the C too. I did look at Bryant fairly closely the first couple of series and didn't see anything he should be embarrassed about. He's been another big positive surprise rookie. He doesn't look at all like a 7th round afterthought and has obviously earned some quality reps.

If Bradbury is as bad as people make him seem. Then I want to see Wilson getting snaps with the first group. He'd have a bigger impact there than at LG. Now that Sow is playing, I want to see if HE could make a run at the LG spot and if he can get back to the position where he was his rookie year, or at least as a back up and Strange taking the job. BTW- I don't see Bradbury being nearly as bad as some people make him seem.

TEs - Josh has a history of utilizing TE a LOT! Yet so far in the preseason, they have been almost invisible. I'm betting that's by design.

WRs- Williams had 2 really good catches and continues to get open. That's all you can expect from the kid. Remember he is a 3rd round rookie and WR is a LOT different in college than the pros. I see the kid not being an impact player THIS year and a back up, but could very well be one in the future.

Chism HAS likely made the club. But I see Welker more than Edelman when I watch him. I didn't see it at first (I was expecting PS), but he's forcing their hand.

Now I'm hoping for Jiles to make it to the PS. I like his size and hands, but he's raw and needs a PS season. Baker deserves a slot that simply doesn't seem to exist with the emergence of Chism It will be interesting to see how the Pats utilize those 2 IR slots to start the season.

The defense- Jennings is the most interesting question mark. Did he "earn:" his slot with today's 3 sacks in one quarter. He was brought up in a different system. He can set an edge with the best of them, but do we value that skill now. Swinson, Jones and Ponder have all flashed promise. What about them.

Chassion and Landry continue to show some burst off the edge and Williams and Barmore are going to be beasts in the middle. White, however has somewhat disappeared lately and has mostly been an effective rusher, but from the middle too. Aren't we expecting more from him that being a good rotational middle rusher?

Duggar- I'm not sure he's dead. Mike has effectively told him that the skill set he earned his contract on needs to be broadened and he needs to show that he can do what THEY need him to do to earn his snaps and LIKE Jennings he has to earn them on the field. Jennings is competing for his slot, and so is Duggar. He isn't *****ing about still being in the game late, he was out their competing. Now it will be based on how he performed that will matter, not when he performed. This happens a lot in the league when a player who grows up in one system and sees it change and has to learn a new set of skills. Sometimes they can't. We will see what happens here.

So missed the game. Went to watch it all before coming to this thread. But also kind of read through as the game went and more or less with the game. Which was fun. Thoughts.

Offense.

Maye showing good and bad things. At least they completed passes to WRs in the first half this game. Hopefully he gets more settled as he gets better with the offense.

Henderson is a beast, and again he kind of bailed the offense out. Yes he missed that big pass, but got a 1st down on 3rd and 10 i think (I don't believe that was Gibson) and another long TD run. This offense without him doesn't score. I know Diggs and Hunter weren't out there... but Jeez. I hate the idea of this offense being so dependent on an RB to spark them, cause their touches are usually limited.

The pass blocking early was good. Campbell with a very clean game. Not facing the pro-bowl DE who took him too the woodshed, but a nice recovery none the less.. A clean game is good to see no matter who you play.

The rest of the starting OL did okay too. Bradbury was shaky at times for sure... but idk if they have a better option now. Wilson while not starting did well when he was in. No complaints. I don't think he is behind Ben Brown, but the want to make the rookie earn his spot and punish him when he doesn't have good days. I still think he starts week 1. Shout out to Bryant for another solid game i think.

As for the WRs.. First Williams. Nice day for him. Getting him going on the intermediate stuff is important. It can't be all deep for him if he wants to be a bigger part of this offense. 3 catches on 3 targets and showing good hands. Sad to see the concussion. But it looked like a fairly minor one. It is very unfortunate as these reps are so important, particularly when he was just starting to bounce back after a cold streak. I hope he can be ready for preseason game 3. But injury aside i was encouraged by what i saw.

Chism, yeah. Dude's just got it. Nuff said.

Also Jon Jiles? He's on the PS for sure.

Baker not impressing me. I know he hasn't always had the most accurate balls thrown his way but preseason basically game speed. Not practice speed or joint practice speed. It is another level. And so far he has not produce very little at it. Practice squad unless he absolutely goes nuts in game 3.

Westover continues to make a case, not amazing or anything, but he seems to be out there a lot doing different things.

I saw some very suspect things from the back up OL. I didn't watch them as closely but it just looked not great. Some run blocking players were particularly bad. One of the worst was Lowe when we were near the goal line for that TFL. That was one of the ugliest plays i've seen by a lineman in this preseason.

Dobbs was better today than last preseason game... not hard though. But the one thing the Vikings announcers did that didn't annoy me was call out his hospital balls.

Also i need to mention Hasty (good RB name), I don't want to put him on the PS yet and call him our emergency guy. But he ran with some real attitude. I liked it.

Theyre showing it again now if you wanted to watch it.
