This is why, if the Pats are going to do it they need a clean break right now. They're better off doing it too early than too late, just as Bill would do with some players.

The worst part of this fiasco is if the Pats had any offense they might have been able to make a run in the AFC this year, even with the toughest schedule in the NYFL. All of the AFC teams look vulnerable compared to other seasons, though KC has an incredibly easy schedule.
A clean break makes sense.

The Kraft's can then make their decisions over months rather than weeks. They can decide whether to sign a GM or a GM/OC. They can be among the first to make offers.

Newsflash I thought Mac sucked his Rookie year. We are seeing that same player Today BB thought he could win with him I beg to differ. I knew that weak arm wouldn't get him anywhere. But it will get us a Top 3 pick.
If they could run the ball these games might be a better showing. If you can't run or complete short passes then what else is there? Mac can't consistently complete anything over 15 yards let alone 10

Kyler Murray is a mediocre QB who's going to make $37 million in SALARY next year (and it gets worse after that). Trade for Daniel Jones, if you want years and years of hot garbage.

They're going to get a very high pick next year. Draft and pray.

Unless a TOP QB comes available, or someone like Herbert, who's really good but not quite there, you can't just jump and PAY. But that scenario's unlikely and risky.

Like it or not, in today's QB-is-99% NFL, which is very different than15 years ago, you have to draft and develop, rinse and repeat, until you get lucky.

Draft a top QB prospect, surround him with talent via FA and trades, and for crissakes, get an innovative OC. I watched the Niners (my second team) yesterday and the announcers were raving about the play design. The second TD to Kittle was an absolute thing of beauty. And I'm not talking Josh playground flea flicker designs. I'm talking honest, put-it-in-your playbook deception.
Sure, look at the year Mac was drafted. Would your strategy have worked?

Say what you will.

Yes, Bill should have secured a RT. Yes, after a couple of injuries, Bill should have traded a 2nd or 3rd for an OT.

That being said, all of these OL when healthy are "near league average players"
BROWN
STRANGE
ANDREWS
ONWENU
(SOW) as a rookie prospect
IMO, we should be getting more than average from Trent Brown when he is making 12 Million this year. He was a turnstile yesterday. He doesn't even look like he is interested in playing. Pathetic.

Rhamondre's fall off has been ignored and hidden in this mess.. We ran better last yr with patricia as OC and oline coach !

Yes, we SHOULD.

Brown has always had a motivation problem. He needs better than average coaching. We worried about this before the season, hoping that Klemm would get him to step up.

That being said, he is at least an average LT.

Also, if other were playing better, I think that he would also. Mac is the leader of the Offense, Brown is following the leader.

Brady in his prime would have made these receivers look better for sure, but there are fundamentals that have been missing with the receivers the last three years. Brady probably hid similar deficiencies back in the day, but that is what elite QBs do.
I don’t think elite is enough of superlative for what Tom did to hide all the dirt under the rug. I would use “god-like”.

Boomer is usually very articulate

IDEA
Start Zappe until after the bye, and then re-assess. In the meantime, Bill can look to trade for a backup QB who has a chance to improve. We'll need a backup next year in any case. This way, he will more experience than if we pick him up in the off-season.

Do you think Trent's lack of motivation is also affecting the other players? I agree that Mac is the leader but other players on the offense need to be held accountable for there poor play. CLICK HERE for one example from yesterdays game of Trent not even trying.

Bruschi was talking on a pregame show about how you can tell if a team is tough or not. He wasn't talking about the Patriots, but in a more general sense.

Tough teams...

1) can run the ball effectively, even if the opponent knows it's coming
2) can stop the run
3) dominate special teams, especially covering punts and (to a lesser extent now) kickoffs

We are 0-3 in those areas. Not sure even Mac playing great would help all that much, until these other areas are fixed.

Sure, but discounting what people in the league think is somewhat obtuse.

Anyways, I guess we can agree to disagree.
We can agree to disagree.

Obtuse? I 0refer to think of it as skeptical ... never forget those league people have their own agendas.

Onwenu maybe. Possibly Andrews, who is declining. The others? No.

The fact that Josh McDaniels got something out of Mac his rookie year says a lot about his coaching prowess. Maybe he isn't HC material but he is def an elite OC.
He is an acceptable OC. Not elite.

Elite OC’s don’t run 2010 offenses. Josh couldn’t scheme open anyone without schoolyard trickery.
Sure, look at the year Mac was drafted. Would your strategy have worked?
No, unless perhaps you had the first pick. Lawrence gas a chance, maybe.

It’s not really a strategy. It’s just the only option.

The NYFL has built this with their rule changes and contract disparities. There’s little balance now. If you don’t have a QB, you’re screwed.

It's not the "coaching" that's the problem, Rodney... It's the grocery-shopping, something at which he's Never been Nearly as good as his coaching anyway... It used to be ok enough, when he had contemporaries in the FO, though there was always a mis-step or so every year it seemed... But what's been happening these past 7-9 years is almost total buffoonery; Billy is now one of the Very Worst executives in the Entire League.
