Can you imagine after all the success of running the ball we had, Zappe drops back in OT after a 5 yard gain on 1st down and throws an int that's ends the game. That would be inexcusable.
Again, it's easy to second guess but it was absolutely the right call. Unfortunately, it didn't work out and on 3rd down he almost threw an int and we had to punt.
I will give Zappe some love. The kid was in an impossible situation. He hasn't even been active yet, and he's playing in Lambeau. Clearly he's not ready to see the field or run all the offense yet, and he should have run for it on 2 occasions, but it's worth seeing him get another shot next week. Hoyer is too experienced to keep taking stupid sacks and delay of game penalties. I think he's done. We'll need a backup QB next week, so I have no idea who they sign off the street. I'm hoping it's not Cam though. Maybe Josh would trade Garrett Gilbert back to us for that pick for Herron. Gilbert was on our PS most of last year.
Game was a fun watch though. Rookies came up big today. Marcus Jones is a legitimate and lethal returner. Jack Jones had a terrific pick 6 mixed in with some up and down moments in between. Overall, despite the loss this game equaled improvement in some areas. Especially with the oline.
I know there are some positives to take away from today am too upset about the loss rn to think about those things. The difference between a win and a loss today not only in the standings but also from a confidence/momentum standpoint was massive.
Yeah it takes a gutsy call to win sometimes, if Zappe was more experienced I'm sure they'd have tried a trick play at some point.
Though I get why they ran it, you have a big RB running behind 6 OL.. just needed 10 more yards to attempt a FG.. and it worked for us in the Steelers game.
I think from this point forward Mac better bring his A game every single week or Zappe is nipping at his heels to put him on the bench… This kid showed a lot of composure in a very difficult situation and actually move the ball a lot better than Mac against tougher competition in a tougher environment….. Hope his ankle heals well so he can come back and prove himself
In my view Zappe gets a B- or a C+. He did not do anything that really wows you. Obviously BB does not have much trust in him or there would have been a pass on 2nd and 5 in OT
Could not really expect much from him. He probably has had zero first team snaps in practice and just probably still not that familiar with the playbook.

I prefer they lose going for the win than losing like they did playing scared trying not to lose. Imagine if Zappe had completed the pass for a 1st down.

Seriously, why not hitch up your wagon to that horse and see if you can get into FG range? Matty P's lack of playcall intelligence at a crucial point in the game, OT, cost us big time here. That's what BB's calculations failed to account for, lack of experience. Although he should have known this exact kind of thing could come up. It cost us the game.
