Big picture, it doesn’t really matter. If they want to cut Smith, they can just restructure somebody else to push present cap hits into the future to offset bringing Smith’s future cap hits into the present.
The goal is just to avoid being the Saints, annually restructuring everybody.
Part of the reason his cap hit in 2023 is so big is because they just restructured him this year. So I am pretty sure they intend to keep him or else they'd have restructured someone else for cash relief.

- Clean house, first. Jonnu is a total bust with Patriots. Take the loss. Agholor as well.
- Improve OL as well as the coaching.
- ST was bottom tier in ranking.
- Get impact WR players. Thornton is not it.
- Get a REAL OC. No more experiments.
- QB coach help for Mac. Otherwise search for a better QB.
I should have said bekichick "doesn't like to" outbid other teams. But yeah I don't know if he'll pay top dollar for a star or male an aggressive trade
Smith is a total headscratcher to me. I don't get what possessed the Pats to lay out all that money for a player that they seemed to have no idea how to use.
I can't imagine how he could be that much of an enigma but McDaniels and Patricia could do nothing with him.
I won't pretend to know better, but how hard can it be to design plays where a TE gets the ball on the move with space. Plenty of ways to disguise things with a TE, in particular on play action.
NFC East and AFC West both played AFC South this year. Might be a little inflating among the lower tiered teams (I.e. other than KC, Philly, and Dallas) because of how bad that division is. We’ll see how it goes though.
I will guarantee that for you. Not happening, that much I know unless he doesn't want to coach anymore of which from all I'm hearing, he's motivated. So like him or not, he is going to be here and frankly, I think as an organization, it's best for the team.
Just saying - Buccaneers are about $55M over the cap in 2023 and have a #1 level WR and another who's borderline. Wonder if they're willing to talk trades.

that was before my time, but there's no coach, college or pro that is still as good as BB...plain and simple....the team did not quit toward the end of the year and put up a fight today....we need more talent, and hopefully another good draft and we'll be right there.
Tom Landry got too old for the game and the Boys flamed out. Shula fared better but declined too.
Bill put the talent on the field. He buys the groceries.
The Pats need better position coaching. The talent level has improved after several years of mediocre drafts. Bill adapted there and he needs to adapt as a coach. If he’s going to do less he needs better and more position coaches with both the ability to coach/teach and position knowledge. No more Matt Patricia/Joe Judge nonsense. It was embarrassingly stupid.
If I’m Bob Kraft my first question is why have all of the Patriots strengths become weaknesses: special teams, linebacker, halftime adjustments, position coaching, penalties and a bunch of other areas. If I don’t get a satisfactory answer, then I move on if I have a guy I really, really think is the guy. This is the Krafts’ product and it has become very average. They don’t seem to me to be people who do average.
1st-10 @ BUF21, third quarter, tied score. It wasn't desperation time at all but Mac treated it like it was. Really costly INT there. The second INT he forced a very low percentage throw too.
Mac was better today than early season, making a number of good throws. The first int was the one that occurred when the game was in the balance. The others were desperation throws where a miracle was needed due to time remaining. Watching all the other teams big plays are made by the receiver taking the ball away or separating from the DB. Agholor did nothing to compete for the ball or prevent the int.

I thought Mac had a good game, toward the end he tried to force too many things. Is he in the same category as Allen, no. Every time I watch Allen, I am more impressed. Just a great talent, a top 2-3 qb...you can debate Mahomes, Allen or Burrow, but I am really impressed with Josh Allen.
