Not saying he's the guy, but Mac Jones looked alot better last year when he had a real coach in McDaniels instead of two bozos in Patricia and Judge who decided to change the offense. How soon we forget all the praise he got last year.
Only thing changed was the offense and the coaching. To me that's a bigger issue. Bill hiring these retreads who have failed everywhere else.
Look at Daniel Jones now that Joe judge isn't his coa
I agree, I think they are just short at a couple crucial spots.
RT has been a pain but seemed to be okay today. LT was actually the issue tonight due to penalties and not necessarily play. Both spots should be targeted.
Linebacker is stinky.
The DBs have a lot of young talented players but need a few more guys.
QB needs to solidify one way or another.
WR is mostly fine - I would like a “true WR1” but I’m not as worried about it as the other positions listed above this.
???couple crucial spots????
QB- the most difficult position to fill
#1 WR
Reliable TE
LT, Centrer, RT- 3/5ths of offensive line
2-3 LB's
2 CB's
That is a lot more than "just short of a couple of spots"
They are 3 years away minimum. Get used to 3rd or 4th place in the division and being a fringe will card team...that is the reality
Mac is certainly more likely to be a journeyman QB like Testeverde and Fitzpatrick for example...he is never going to be a long term solution in the pros IMO
Mac could potentially be a long term solution if they used him right and played to his strengths. I am fearing though the Pats are going to do what bad teams do to talented QBs and ruin him. They are forcing him to run an offense that doesn’t play to his or his teammates‘ strengths.
BB just said that pulling Jones was not a benching for performance, and that playing both QBs was the plan from the beginning. He said that Jones would have gone back in, but the score got out of hand, and he didn't think it was the right thing to do at that point.
You're all welcome to believe or disbelieve the coach, of course.
QB is one issue..what I saw and could not believe was the Pats defense getting pushed all over the field, giving up 6, 7, 8 yard runs when they hit the RB in the backfield...and the cover nobody D...jeezus, they KNEW Fields main attribute was his running...86 yards!! and people here think we'll be just la dee dah when Buffalo waltzes into town?? You think the slaughter that ended our season last year was an anomaly? Josh Allen will put up 500+ yards through the air and an EASY 100 yards running on this putrid undersized poor tackling defense.
Burrow, Mahomes, Allen, Herbert...THIS is the KIND of QB that wins in this league now. Players with SIZE and SPEED. Don't know what the Pats are thinking with this bargain basement, undersized, over matched roster. Our secondary tonight was an abomination. Our D line is putrid. And guess who we face in THEIR house next week, another Fields type clone in Punky McMilfson. He'll put up ridiculously lousy numbers and hand the ball off and the Jets will beat this embarrassment like a red headed step child. If they are going to play like pansies then tank this season and draft draft draft + free agency. The current squad is close to semi-pro.
Because I watched the games. I saw how simplified they made the offense and how bad the defenses were he played against. He didn’t do nearly enough to show me that he was a viable long term starter.
And yes, when you are drafted in the fourth round, the burden is on you to convince people you are a starting QB. First rounders have the luxury of having to prove to people they are not a starting QB.
He showed everything he could have possibly showed given the circumstances. And why should it be any surprise that they simplified the offense for a guy who no one thought was going to play meaningful snaps this year, took minimal snaps in practice, and has been with the team for like 5 months? Maybe wait and watch and see how the offense does or doesn't expand as he plays more. I don't know that he's going to be a legit starter, but no chance anyone should conclude that he can't be at this point.

those who believe Bill's BS also put quarters under their pillow for the tooth fairy ....if mac had built up a huge lead Zappe would have only gone in in garbage time
Jones came back too early. If he took the Toradol, the platooning actually makes sense, since Toradol doesn't last for the whole game, though the idea of putting him back in again doesn't, for the same reason.
I fully believe the plan was to play both quarterbacks.. if Mac played poorly. He did, both qbs played. If Mac played well, he would have played the whole game.

Yes, that’s my hope too - if Thornton is “that guy” then Parker and Meyers (if you pay Meyers next year) are perfect complements alongside him. Will have to see how it goes.

I don’t think Zappe is going to be starting again any time soon. I am still betting Belichick will not give up on Mac Jones yet.
But we are already seeing teams getting a book on Zappe and how poorly he plays when a teams calls plays to stop him specifically. What the Bears did in the second half will be repeated by every team Zappe faces, if he faces another team. And no better how much better of a player he might get, he is not getting any taller.

The only way I see Mac Jones being in Foxboro long term is getting him elite expensive FA talents at WR and we all know Bill is never going to do that...we already know he has issues with WRs in the draft
Having a plan for two QBs does not seem like a good idea ... at all. Commit to one player, one approach, get them consistent 1st-team reps, familiarity, rhythm, etc.
