PATRIOTS NEWS OFFICIAL: Patriots Finally Acquire AJ Brown

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
Agreed, Gonzo hasn't reached his full potential yet.
Timing of contracts is always a factor, whoever signs the most recent, is usually the highest paid (of players considered the same caliber).
True lockdown CBs are hard to find, but Gonzo and his agent need to be reasonable.
Make him the highest paid, that's fine.
But if he thinks he's going to blow the roof off the market like Linderbaum did at the OC position, then this will get messy.
If that’s the stance (no indication it is), then trade him. 2 number one picks is the starting bid

Reading many articles about the trade. For what it’s worth Patriots are getting A to A- trade grades

To be honest I would rather trade a 1st in the 2028 draft than a 2nd in the loaded 2027 draft. Might even want to trade other 2028 picks during the draft in order to trade up in 2027. Stock up on players next year where there’s lots of talent and then have a lighter 2028 draft class.

Agree to disagree. Don't know what else to say. Its a business but still a team sport. 2 way street players have to meet you in the middle if you wanna win. If I tell a player hey im gonna give you 2 more mil per year than any other player at your position and they come back and say not good enough. Its trade time.
You are missing the point. If you are going to give him 2 million more than the next highest paid guy, just must feel he is incredibly valuable. Why wouldn’t you give him 3 more. Where did you come up with 2 being a line in the sand. If you feel that’s value of course 3 would be too because a million dollar is the equivalent an accounting error.
Drawing an arbitrary line in the sand and losing a great player over it is stupid

I think the "bad knees" thing might be a bit overblown, he obviously has had some slight knee issues.

If his knees are in as bad shape as people like to claim this trade would be off cause no way he'd pass his physical, it doesn't matter how bad Vrabel wants him they aren't going to sign a guy with destroyed knees.

You would think...

I'm hopeful, and it's a nice boost for the "attractiveness" of the Pats after the last 6 years of being panned by FA's.

But, on the objective side - AJ is pretty slow. He was a 4.5 guy at 21yrs. He's probably a 4.6+ X receiver now.
We're counting on him being in perfect shape, and all about technique + physicality.
Puca Nacua was a 4,5+ guy, so was the Seattle WR, so are Kupp and JSN is no speed merchant. Having a great 40 time is no guarantee of being a good WR. Besides going from 21 to 28 doesn't age you out of the game. Your smarter, you know how to disguise your moves better, you know your opponents better, you know the details of your offense better, etc

I mean, the first-rounder is a pick the draft after next. Some guys here are really vociferous about how that's the shtty draft anyway. To me, it's more the "I'll gladly pay you $5 Tuesday for a hamburger today" nature of draft capital - that is, the value of future picks is additionally discounted the more years into the future you go.

It's going to be the 32nd pick anyway, fckers!
In what is predicted to be a really awful draft year.

in the 2027-2028 season, pats better not finish in bottom 12 or this would have been a terrible trade.
The possibility now exists that we traded a top 10 pick for an aging AJ Brown.

The trade should not have been made unless you knew what #pick the first rounder was

Im not missing any point i just made mine.
People are allowed to disagree. I came up with 33 cuz the # 1 paid guy is 31 and Witherspoon will want to top that so I say 32
Ok let's give gonzo 33. That's top of the market deal. Give him healthy guarantees.
You have to draw the line somewhere. You'll end up giving every player extra money.
Gonzo can get you 2 1s and a good player at least. Say your working somewhere and your doing a really good job and your boss says im giving you a raise, im gonna make you the best paid at what you do by a decent margin. Are you really gonna say I want more come on.

I don’t think Volin believes 4/5 of the dung he writes. His default position is simply pissing on the Pats.
I do. I think he's just as stupid as he seems.

1st rounders are the lifeblood of any team.

Without them, you're going nowhere.
LA Rams first rounders in the last 10 years.

2016 Jared Goff

2017 no first rounder
2018 no first rounder
2019 no first rounder
2020 no first rounder
2021 no first rounder
2022 no first rounder
2023 no first rounder

2024 Jared Verse

2025 no first rounder

2026 Ty Simpson

You are being emotional about it.
If he’s a good deal at 32 mill a year which he may or may not be letting him walk because he wants 33 is asinine.
But my main point here is you are drawing a made up line that has nothing to do with reality or a negotiation process and saying I’ll start with paying him 2 mill more than anyone else but if he wants 3 **** him.

What if it’s 32

I said I would give him 33
Im being the opposite of emotional
Its business. Im offering the most at that position. If it's not good enough I'll take 2 1sts and a good player

We don't know how it effects his game except looking at last year's playoffs. Not a good look. I assume Vrabel will manage it like he did Moses last year, every Wedensday off, maybe Thursday too. Skip a few games, hopefully 2 or 3 games at the end of the season to rest the knee. By season's end last year, the knee was shot. Vrabel will have to rest it a lot for the next few years.

A #1 WR like Brown with a cap hit of $7M and $11m over the next two years is not available for a late round draft pick unless there is something wrong. It is that simple. The knee issue is chronic.
My God you talk out of your ass. To say that Brown's knee was shot by the playoffs is complete BS. His last half of the year was much better than the first half. Amazing that he was able to do that on a knee that was shot one week later in the playoffs. Did Chat GPT tell you that? You talk like you are his doctor and know his medical records. It is ridiculous and is getting quite old. His playoff performance left a lot to be desired but it had nothing to do with his knee.

How’d you do at the batting cage
I had a good day. I paid for lessons over the winter from a guy who used to play in the Yankees triple A. I don't stride properly into the swing. Seems like a minor thing but I commonly step out or in too much because I am trying to comp for the ball being inside or outside. I have to always stride the same and throw my hands forward differently to comp. Very hard for me to learn. Thanks for asking.

Seems to be some buyers remorse without even seeing if he is worth the cost of this move.
Much like determining "winners" after the NFL draft before OTA's, TC & season start.
Will choose to wait to see if he was worth it before judgement is passed.
