PATRIOTS NEWS OFFICIAL: Patriots Finally Acquire AJ Brown

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
I agree. The 2025 post-season where Brown stunk when he was manhandled.
Sure.
Also the season your GOAT GM got beat by a MASH unit at home, barely winning one of the softest divisions in NFL history, while Vrabel and co. took 3/4th of an NFL-caliber team to a Super Bowl.

So you would rather not have the player and say you won by getting nothing?
The trade is good. It will be a 2 yr rental before the attitude sucks. Hope he does get in mayes face. I don't like the compensation. Everyone in the world knew about this trade and the eagles needing to make it. You had the leverage and caved. Should've been a second for a player on the back nine with a huge contract

Well, this has been fun, but the real point here is a simple one: If you think this team is a single wide receiver away from genuine competitiveness for a championship, you are delusional. The work of building a comprehensibly solid roster is not completed. It is in a way unfortunate that last year's success has conveyed to some an erroneous perception that we are at that point, but that perception is merely another aspect of your deluded state.
Who is this guy ? Competitive for a championship ? We got to the championship game last year WITHOUT Brown.

Completely agree, they're more than a receiver away from a fully complete team.

That said...this helps a lot.

Brown

Doubs

This is a nice WR room......one guy to bust coverages (Brown with a "bad knee" and diva tendencies STILL will draw a safety over the top), three guys who are deep threats, and two guys underneath.....

==================

I am not so hot on giving up a 1st in 2028....but at least it is 2028...and the pick will likely be in the #18-#32 range. Don't care about giving up the 5th...we can find a UDFA to replace. But what kills me is the cap numbers the next 4 years: 15M, 21M, 32M, and 32M.....
Hyped, why are your cap numbers for the next 4 years so much higher than the 7,10, 11, and 23 numbers I've been seeing so often

Also, we can pencil my avatar in for his best statistical season.

Book that, screenshot it, hold me to it.

I'd prefer a 2nd, but the Eagles didn't have to trade him. Pats did what they had to do to acquire him and set up the Pats for a Super Bowl in 2026. I'm all for building through the draft, but we don't have time for that **** and the Pats have have been horrible at drafting WR for the last 30 years. Too many fans drink the Kool Aid building for the "future", when nothing is guaranteed. Rams and Pats are doing the right thing going all in.

The 2001 New England Patriots. That was really year one.

This year was the exception, but the teams that won the decade before had the best QB. That's the era we live in.

They have to surround Maye with enough talent now to get him believing he's that guy every year.
2001 was year 2. Bb arrived in 2000.

If I had no knowledge who was traded where or signed with new teams & I blindly took a look at the current names on our roster, I’d swear this was a 2019 Titans team.

Let's make a deal. Anyone bummed about the player or the trade should not revel in any of the success the Pats and Maye have on plays that involve AJB. Take a pee break, grab another snack or beer out of the fridge, have a fond and solemn remembrance of Kashon Boutte, and join us for the next series.

Looking at the film from last year the most significant thing I see is how quickly Hurts is able to get rid of the ball when passing to Brown. The longest I saw was 2.5 seconds, and that was on a pretty deep ball. Most were around 2 seconds -- drop back, set, throw. Brown wasn't exactly open but open enough to throw to him and he made the catch. Over and over.

If he and Maye get in a rhythm they'll be hard to stop. And then there are the other receivers as well!

If you ignore things like QB, sure.

Although that 2019 team...their season ended up ok, if I remember right.

Some people think first round picks are god tier level untouchable
Exactly. They are not. They are but bets on unproven NFL talent, the majority of which don't work out.

Exhibit A - our 1st round picks the last 15 years:

  • 2026: Caleb Lomu, OT, Utah (Pick No. 28)
  • 2025: Will Campbell, OT, LSU (Pick No. 4)
  • 2024: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina (Pick No. 3)
  • 2023: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
  • 2022: Cole Strange, OL, Tennessee at Chattanooga
  • 2021: Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
  • 2019: N'Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State
  • 2018: Sony Michel, RB, Georgia & Isaiah Wynn, OL, Georgia
  • 2015: Malcom Brown, DL, Texas
  • 2014: Dominique Easley, DL, Florida
  • 2012: Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse & Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama

I'd take AJ Brown -- a proven high-level talent with an expected couple solid years left -- over everyone on that list except Maye and Gonzalez.

They couldn’t get him for a second.
Sure life would be great if you got things for less than what they actually cost, but in reality people who think that way get no things.
