PATRIOTS NEWS OFFICIAL: Patriots Finally Acquire AJ Brown

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
My “historically struggled at drafting” comment was us re: wide receivers.

So you’re going to discount Stafford and Ramsey and the fact that they shipped off four 1st rounders to secure that Super Bowl and are continuing this strategy? Edit: or the 2nd and 3rd round picks they gave up for Von Miller halfway through the year.

They got cooked? They were right in the mix last year and will be this year. 2 underwhelming seasons? Who cares.

They’re finding success with this strategy. But yes, the point is moot since we aren’t doing remotely anything like that. But trying to act like they’ve been successful because of the draft and trading picks has doomed them and now the Pats are trying to take shortcuts that don’t exist is nonsense.
I don't see the success.

I think I've stated this. Their last Super Bowl was won with homegrown players.

Stafford is a different story because he's a HOF QB. QBs are an entirely different matter. I'd say the going rate for a top QB is at least 3 1st rounders if not more.

The Rams right now are in need of a new QB.

"They got cooked?" You don't agree? Who cares? That's 2 1st first round picks.

Instead of Jalen Ramsey they could have taken Justin Jefferson (who went right after the Rams pick they traded away).

Patricia tried to run outisde zone and it did not work. He was wrong for trying without mobile OLmen. That is the same as screens. Onwenu and Moses prevent Outside Zone runs and screens. If Vera-Tucker works out (I am concerned the PEDs led to his injuries) then we will be running Outside Zone and Screens in 2027.

I hope you are right. Heavy PED use can lead to a career like Vera-Tucker's career. That is my concern.
It all depends on the cycle.
Every player on both sides of the line use PEDs.

To your point, when they don't, and try to have a healthy season, you get Joey Bosa last year.

Allegedly..

Time will tell. I'll give the trade a chance but I do think they had the leverage to get him for a second. Trade was worst kept secret

They did get him for a 2nd. In NFL trade value a pick that is delayed a year is considered a round lower than the stated round. If people want to discount that then that's fine, but they shouldn't bother using NFL trade value charts in the future if they are going to dismiss it now because it doesn't fit the narrative they want.

You'll pull a Hollins flip/flop and want the R1 back right around 4/1/28.
Steve let Barefoot cook.

2 1st round picks, 1 2nd rounder, 1 3rd rounder for just Ramsey, Miller. And yet, they're right back in the mix.
If they don't make those trades maybe they win the Sb, maybe they don't. I'll call it unlikely.
Maybe they draft Justin Jefferson, maybe they don't. I'll call it 50/50.
Maybe they have more success the following years, maybe they don't. Certainly not 2023, they were decimated by injuries.
You can keep pretending that trading picks for talent wasn't critical to their SB win, but that's all you're doing. I'm not going to argue with success, which they are still having by the way, again despite trading away the almighty draft pick.

Set up your MVP level young QB while he is on his rookie contract for success by getting him some elite talent to work with. The Patriots did that. That’s a good thing.

It’s not rocket science. Or at least it shouldn’t be.

Talking heads who make claims like this are 100% full of ****. Either come out and say what you are talking about or keep your piehole shut.
It's one of those sort of open secrets. I have no doubt one of the players told Craig Carton about it directly, but he's far from the only one who knows.

The vague story has been in the media since around that time, out there for anyone to see. Let's just say, there's a reason AJ Brown and Hasaan Reddick and Milton Williams wanted out of there.

The late 90's Pats is an example of nothing being guaranteed. They were the favorite to take over for the Elway Broncos. Bad drafts, injuries and horrendous player personnel decisions changed that. Jacksonville was another team to do so and looked like it during the 1999 season, but they were never the same after the lost 3 straight times to Tennessee.

Swing for the fences while you can.

Yup. That is right.

PEDs help or hurt some players more than others. PEDs helped Barry Bonds and Manny Ramirez. There are dozens of others that PEDs led to injuries. Is Vera-Tucker a guy that got injured or a guy that PEDs led to injury? We will see.

Reminds me that the last true elite Wr1 drafted by the Patriots is Terry Glenn. 30 years ago. Yikes

I'm sure every team has that one position they can't draft. I've always noticed the Steelers can't draft a CB which was a big reason they couldn't ever hang with the Pats.
