Official (not rumors) 2013 NFL Free Agency Thread

Yesterday, we had seven key top free agents. We have now lost Thomas, and, of course, we have lost many other early opportunities (which is not unusual). We also have not signed any of our own. I would call this a bad day, certainly not a good one.

With the possible exception of Talib, I wonder if we are talking to any of them? Maybe our front office goes to bed early/

How long do y'all think it'll be before the Pats make a move? I'm not expecting anything "big" before Thursday.

watch the Patriots steal the next three days

Sources confirm that Pats have moved on from Welker and they will definitely not be picking up Lloyd's option.

Talib 4 years 22 mil
Keenan Lewis 3 years 14.5 mil
Reed 2 years 10.5 mil
Asomugha 2 years 9 mil
Amendola 4 years 16 mil
David Nelson 2 year 3 mil
Donnie Avery 2 years 3 mil
Mohamed Massaquoi 2 years 2.5 mil

According to sources, the Titans are shopping Nate Washington.

You must not be from around these parts. Patriots never jump into FA right away. They usually take the value players starting day 2 or 3

What value players in a weak free agent class? The good players are our guys.

That's a very close-minded opinion. The only players you can claim are among the best on the market are Welker, Talib, and Vollmer.

If Vollmer goes, it will suck, but I'm not worried. Scar can make magic out of anything.

Losing Welker would suck a lot, but a lot of fans hold the opinion that this offense is too dependent on Wes. If he goes, this offense will change. Look at 2006. The receivers sucked, but Brady was knocking on the door of a Super Bowl.

Losing Talib would suck in the sense that the team loses a 4th. Otherwise, there are plenty of veteran Corners out there.

The market isn't going to explode for any particular player from here on out. The Pats will find their players and offer them fair market value. It will work out.

Given that history has shown the Patriots approach regarding free agency to not "work out" fairly often, you'll have to forgive people for not putting full faith in what is a deliberately scattershot system.

The issue is our own free agents. I understand that we don't often jump in early on others, although we have.

And BTW, with the 3 day legal tampering period, this is a lot more like day 2 or 3.

People want to hear how the Pats signed Wallace or Jennings or Kruger. Big Free Agent names. I get it. We all want to hear it. But you can't ignore this unprecedented run the team has been on over the past decade.

When teams go out and spend big, the cap comes back to haunt them. The Patriots have consistently been in solid position to build and contend.

Pointing out problems isn't the same as ignoring the run. The run has been excellent. The drafting and free agency periods have had their fair share of ups and downs.

Your comment is a significant overstatement of what happens. Going out and spending big is fine, as long as you don't do it too often.

#Raiders DT Desmond Bryant is going to sign with Cleveland. Best DT on the market.

Wow. Watch out for Cleveland's defense!! Their defense is getting stacked.

First off, I agree with your general thought that things will work out. Most of us do, and most of us also realize that we aren't the kind of team that makes many bigger named moves. That said, the difference this year seems to be the fact that we haven't retained any of our own prior to the start of free agency, which leaves more holes than you think.

The fact that they currently have 25 million dollars of cap room also hinted that there may be some moves, not to mention the retainment of some of our own (Arrington, Edelman, Woodhead, Talib, Vollmer, Welker, Thomas). The fact that not one player has been retained is what tends to worry people.

Regarding your comments about Welker, seeing as how Llyod is also another supposed player that we're moving on from (WR1 and WR2) when exactly would you propose they actually address this issue with either a slot receiver (Amendola, Welker, Edelman) or an outside the numbers WR2 (considering it won't be a high priced guy this will have to be filled with cap casualties, most of whom are garbage at the moment).

If they're not going to keep Welker, that's bad enough, but one would think they'd be addressing a replacement, and/or retaining Edelman. The Llyod situation is different altogether due to the fact that there don't seem to be any viable replacements out there for reasonable cost.

How was Chung not a bust? What has Dowling done except for being injured his first two seasons (he had an injury history). What did Wilson do last season that showed he had any promise? Where is Darius Butler...oh he's some jag on the Colts after being another early 2nd pick. Wheatley. That is all.

I know you don't sip, you gulp BB Kool aid, but he's made many draft busts especially in the secondary. At least have the balls to admit it.

Butler had an opposing passer rating of 39.5 for the Colts. He's not "some JAG". He's actually a pretty good player (or was last year at least)

Reed + Asomugha is a likely probability and would make sense. I would be overrun with joy if it happened, which means it won't happen.
