Absolutely didn't need to blindly lead with the helmet. Bad call anyway since he whiffed, but leading with the helmet will always make a ref's flag hand twitch.
I don't know if it matters, but this defense WILL begin to play this offense better now that they've seen it. The real question is will the offense move the ball.
