Official Free Agency 2018

IMHO, we start free agency needing 2 LT's and a corner. Otherwise, IMHO, we are at least as good as last year (before 2018 injuries).
=========.

I'll try to help...

Amendola gone, Edelman and Mitchell back. Cooks in second year.

Lewis hurts, but Burkhead back healthy and James White can take a bunch of those reps. They're not naked back there at all.

Solder...well, this one could be big, but Cannon back healthy is a good thing on a line that was improving and growing tighter together.

Gronkowski is a wild card right now, but I don't see him leaving. I think the O will be fine.

The D...Branch was not good last year and Ricky Jean Francois was a band=aid - it is what it is. Shelton/Valentine is an upgrade in the middle of the DL.

Butler? Well, we'll see. He wasn't good last year. He was GREAT the year before, but he seriously underperformed last year, so his leaving is a subtraction of potential, but not necessarily of performance.

YES, as the first hour of free agency is past, we need to sign a corner and a LT. IMHO, we have had much, much more serious issues going into free agencies in past seasons.

DEFENSE
You think that the front seven is worse with
Valentine and Shelton instead of branch (and all his 2017 contributions) and Francois?
Hightower and Rivers instead of Harris and Flowers

OFFENSE
I think that Edelman and Mitchell (and Britt) are more valuable than Amendola.
Burkhead was injured for most of the year. He and White will get the reps of Lewis.
I suppose the opening quote of “we are at least as good as last year (before 2018 injuries)” made me believe that he was talking about the roster at this point last year....before the injuries.

In other words, I assumed that this meant that guys like HT, Edelman, etc were included because the comparison was to this point last year—before the injuries.

Hence my confusion. Sorry if I misread this incorrectly, although I’m still not sure that I did. At any rate, let’s move on.

Well, Im not trying to be DaBruinz, but I have a hard time seeing any of this as an improvement, that’s all. Luckily, it’s only day one of free agency, so there’s plenty of time to add key pieces (an argument that I made last evening).

The poster whom I responded to stated that we’re in “at least as good of shape as last year at this time,” or something to that effect. I just highly disagree with that statement. No big deal.

I can explain why you can’t see it as improvement. It’s because it’s not even in the same solar system of an improvement. This may change and become better but it’s hard to see it. With all these guys leaving, what’s our cap look like now?

Not sure I like this - for him.

For the Pats, it's good news.

Not necessarily from the Pats' perspective. Not sure if I'd want to go into the season depending on him. Makes me think about the Mike Wright situation back in 2009(?) and how they got caught flatfooted with no interior pass rush that year because of it.

There goes that rumor..

Doesn't say they are the only ones and Pats have significantly more cap space than the Cowboys right now and as much as Seattle.

More linemen numbers.

lol here is a REAL rich one from him

This was after the 2014 playoffs

Where are the smiley faces @Brady6

Wish there was a icon tier above Winner. Like Legendary or something.

BTW.. For people lamenting the loss of Butler. He could have stayed if he'd wanted. He chose not to:

Very interesting player. He has replaced Andrews Peat very well.

No, I never said that but I would like the posters in here to be realistic and admit that we have not had a great start to free agency.
It’s been awful, but there wasn’t much Bill and co could do. There’s guy on here saying just get it done somehow and it wasn’t possible to bring back all these guys. Just a bad situation.

Rappaport is crazy if he thinks the Pats are going to bring in Suh the mercenary..

This is true for 95-99% of FAs.

Yeah, there's some gesturing to culture and fit but ultimately this isn't looking at colleges. Especially for the bigger name guys, money is what talks, not fluffy ****. The Patriots get players because they outbid other teams or offer comparable deals. The players who have actually taken discounts to play in New England are few and far between, and most of them were already Patriots to begin with.

There is a whole thread dedicated to this very subject, but thanks.
