DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION Official 2025 Draft Day Thread: Day Three

I know ….he really is and most don’t amount to anything…..I get it….but I would have used on on someone that has a higher potential and on O side of the ball or OL
Same here. But after how the rest of the draft went, I could really care less.

Compared to all the Duke Dawson and Cyrus Jones and JoeJuan Williams drafts of the last decade,

Those three players combined have ZERO career INTs.

Jesus they were......not good.

I doubt any long snapper would sign here as an UDFA with cardona on the roster. Presumably they want to swap him out for someone younger but with the luxury of still having in camp in case the guy sucks. An UDFA would sign somewhere with a clearer opening.

Not saying I support drafting one, just trying to think of why they did it.

I wasn't thrilled by the LS pick at first blush. But here's the thing. Thes guys have spent 100's of hours over the last 4 months evaluating the current roster. We haven't been privy to any of those discussions. Perhaps it was decided that there was a need for a new LS and this kid would make a long term difference as Cardona IS getting a bit long in the tooth at 33 and has split allegiances since he has a full time career with the Navy. Joe can probably do the job for another year or two, but long term he isn't the answer.

So you have identified this kid as a sure fire upgrade and a long-term solution. And Sure, you COULD get him as an UDFA, but there is no guarantee you can. It's a real risk and why risk it when you have the draft capital and no one you LOVE as an alternative. Plus you add some cap space.

So I might not agree with the pick, (I would have gone TE there), I certainly understand why they didn't just wait until after the draft to get him. It's not always that simple. You have 31 organizations competing with you for those UDFA's.

Same with Mr Irrelevant….take a WR or RB or TE or OL or even a QB project there….rather than a DB from small program no one has ever heard of….that played only 9 games last year due to frequent injuries!
Agreed 1,000,000%. What scared me about this draft is that they didn’t pick another WR or a TE. I love that Henderson & Williams are explosive, but they could’ve used more explosive weapons. That too is very Belichickian, Bill seemed to think you can only draft one or two explosive players in each draft.

For instance, the Craig Woodson pick, I hated that pick. WR Dont’e Thornton (Raiders) was still there, a HUGE, EXPLOSIVE WR. Take a swing at the fences. WR Arian Smith (Jets) was still there. Edge Jack Sawyer (Steelers) was there. WR Jalin Lane was there (Commanders). WR Jalin Royals (Chiefs). Woodson was not a highly rated safety, taken higher than several higher rated safeties. YOU’RE ALLOWED to double dip at WR, there’s no rules against it. The reason you double dip, you have a better chance that one of those guys makes it. I liked that they double dipped last year, but they picked 2 slower WRs.

Long snapper is a brilliant analytical pick. 7th round picks are hits 1 out of 20 years. A Long Snapper could make the roster and play a decade. Any other pick had almost no chance of that.

Half the teams haven’t had a good 7th round pick in the last 10 years.
You should use them for kicker, long snappers, and wild shots at premium positions like QB.
Your cold logic is denying someone the opportunity to redirect the rage that their frustrating existence has created within them to something other than the chain of events that have lead them to this place. Shame on you.

Maybe after 4 full months of roster evaluations they decided that a draft full of WR's just wasn't appropriate. MAYBE the decided that perhaps the guys that ALREADY have, have some potential in the offense and schemes they are going to want to do.

Don't be surprised to see a TE become a priority UDFA, and I would have liked to have gotten one in the last round. WR's are NOT going to change the course of this season. Let's see what we have in that WR room come the end of August and make a judgement THEN. And remember, I'm sure you liked a LOT of WR's in this year's draft. Well guess what. There are going to be JUST as many or more come next year's draft. WR's - The NFL's most available commodity.

So you’re telling me a long snapper wouldn’t come to New England if offered an UDFA contract ? Here’s a dollar, buy a clue.
By the mid 7th round it is financially better to not get drafted then to be drafted in terms of both guaranteed money and likelihood of collecting GameDay checks. A high priority UDFA gets more guaranteed money and choice where to go for the best chance to break camp. If we assume this guy was the top LS the odds that his agent had multiple teams with preliminary offers by 745pm tonight would be high and then it is a crapshoot

Drafting him precludes that roulette game.

Here’s the picks I liked or loved

Campbell
Henderson
Williams (preferred Noel, but Williams is more of an outside WR, so I get it).
Wilson
Farmer
Swinson
Borregales
Bryant.

So that’s a fantastic haul. I’ll ignore the Woodson, Ashby and Minor picks, all stupid when better players were available.

Overall, but give our draft a B+. 8 picks that will possibly start eventually. Farmer & Swinson are great value picks, neither should’ve been there when we picked them. Borregales was my favorite kicker in the draft. Bryant is an absolute gigantic depth tackle. Wilson was the top ranked center, and like Campbell, is extremely athletic. Like all 3 linemen.

Loved Campbell despite the arm length BS that put media in such a tizzy. He was the top rated lineman in the draft, love his personality and leadership ability. We actually have 2 linemen that have leadership qualities now (Moses & Campbell).

Could have gotten him as an UDFA.
You are assuming the Patriots would A) make the best offer and B) assuming multiple offers be his preferred landing spot

Given the Patriots have a good long snapper under contract, assumption B is heroic

@Manxman started really strong hitting pick after pick, but finished weak missing pick after pick. The dude is fading fast. Maybe it is just a flesh wound?

I often wonder if the draft gurus on this board have some sort of deep, blood-level grudges/rivalries with each other.

Just gonna assume you're a BGC parachute account.

Wasted pick. He’s has no chance to make the team, YOU have a better chance to make the team. We could’ve had a solid TE in Luke Lachey (went 4 picks later). Should’ve traded it away.

This was an incredibly Belichickan pick. I know most 7th round picks have little chance to make the team, but a guy like Lachey has a better chance to make the team than a Long Snapper when you have a real good one already.
So sad. Everyone needs a replacement.

You're kidding! This skinny guy's gonna play center? I mean, I know they can't line up against him, but they'll crush him from an angle.
Looks weird
But just saw that teams were going to line up for him as a UDFA
Must be a Bobby Boucher type
