The 2nd statement is not really true.
Brissett's ceiling is established - it may have been 2 years ago. He's not going to be able to keep up in a shootout, or if the D can't keep teams under 20 pts. So he's not really going to make the Pats better, just keep status quo.
Maye is best served to be slowly integrated, and take some time to get comfortable without the pressure of a juggling OL and new receivers getting comfortable too.
But, the Pats won't be better off without Maye when the offense needs to win games - they'll remain mediocre. ie: safe

Most likely you are correct and he ends the year in the low 80% on fgs. However nick folk was kinda the same as him prior to coming here, maybe even more erratic until he came here. Never know!

Good point. Sometimes these guys need to be journeymen for a while until they find a good spot.

On the broadcast, they quoted Mayo as saying it's a competition for jobs every week. They were talking offensive line, but I think Mayo is setting that tone on purpose, so they can make the switch if they think Maye is the better QB through practice.

Based on the rookies performance in Game 1, Wolf is looking good for GM of the Year. Robinson played yesterday and Polk was in for a few plays and 1 reception. The rest of the class was a DNP? Maye is our only hope for this draft class. Does Baker keep guns in his travel luggage?

I know, I know, it is not reasonable to compare to Kingsley Suamataia starting at left tackle because Mahomes makes him look great even though he is not.

Anything short of Brissett lighting it up, I would bench him the second the coaching staff think Drake is ready to play.

It was after, barmore was diagnosed in late July and judon was traded in mid August. I don’t think it would’ve factored into the decision though, i just think i had a slight more emphasis on this season than the fo had. Though i do agree with the overall approach and not opening up the checkbook yet, thought there some smaller things we could have done to try to be more competitive this year. But as much as i love judon id love if im proven wrong!

I do not know whether this win portends a winning season or even whether I ought to amend my four-win prediction. But it has convinced me that I should abandon my pretty negative take on Mayo's potential as a HC. The team was well-prepared and well-conditioned. They played hard. The in-game decisions and adjustments were in the money, so far as I could tell. I find Mayo's manner of speaking - all the back and forth and the Oprah crap and the self-contradiction - annoying as hell, but the players obviously don't mind a bit, and that is what matters.

Remember what the Tuna use to say and BB even adopted it when he got here. If you take care of the Football don't turn it over: run it well and play good Defense...you're going to win or be in a lot of games.

I agree that it would be bad to take Brissett out if he is playing well and has the support of the locker room. Given his track record, I think that will take care of itself. A few games where the team needs to come from behind will expose his limitations. Ultimately the players will support Maye if he earns his shot at the starting job in practice.

I expect Maye will relieve Brissett due to injury at some point, and there will be no going back.

I think that is far more likely than Mayo needing to make a decision.

Brissett was taking some serious hits yesterday where the blocking wasn't working. As well as the oline played, I think we need to be realistic that when Maye gets behind this line, he's going to take some serious hits, too.

Worth noting that if the 3-14 Jaguars didn't upset the Dolphins in 2021 then the Pats miss the playoffs and Bill would have had zero playoff appearances post Brady. Would have not looked great on his legacy.

If you're going to play that game. Change one win from a loss in 2022 and 2 out 3 Mac seasons would have a winning record including Matty Ps first year. You might still have Mac, BB, and Matty P that way.
