Money speaks and based off Patriots history we’ve never been generous with contract offers. I think you offer guys a good deal and they’ll sign regardless of the rebuild.

If we operate with the idea that we need to get players to sign great value contracts as a losing franchise we won’t get anywhere.

You’ve got to significantly overpay in that scenario, and we’ve heard enough reports of them being in the mix that it’s clear the effort is being made. They’re just in a tough spot right now because top tier guys want to win or at least have a shot at postseason incentives.

Chicken/Egg. Have to get the(a) quarterback. At least then, you have a plan that you can sell guys on. Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke (and a hypothetical QB at #3) just aren't enough right now. That's why they made a move so quick in 2021 to re-sign Newton ahead of free agency.
