Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I have a feeling that the 49ers front office is hedging. Because Trey Lance right now is a complete mystery box that they simply can't be comfortable throwing out there as next year's week 1 starter. So if Purdy regresses badly...well Jimmy G wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire so the next choice is Brady.
I can definitely see them trading Lance at some point! The Jimmy G boat has all but sailed away

If you’re Vegas do you trade a 1st for Ramsey assuming you get a 2nd for Carr? I would then sign a safety (Bates) and you’re looking at a good secondary with food pass rushes in Crosby/Jones. Draft a linebacker/DT in the second round and hope Perriman/Ya-Sin can stay Healthy as both were good this season when they played. Bates and Ramsey would make the defense good and they’d become a championship contender with and offense of jacobs, Adams, Renfrow, Waller, Gronk and Brady

If you sign Brady you trade literally everything for the now.

I’d give up a 2024 first. that 7th overall could be valuable for a defensive or OL day 1 starter if Brady comes

Ya pretty sure a 2023 2nd and next years 1st would work have Ramsey take away WR1 church in turn makes Vegas CB2 better then draft an OT at 7

The thing is, they have a seven game sample size with Purdy in their actual offense with their actual players and coaches. While the idea of Brady is nice, he'd need to be paid, he'd need to be made to fit into their system, he'd need to not decline further, and he'd not have the kind of control he had in Tampa.

The summary of the SI article wasn't very direct. The underling SF Chronicle article says:

On Thursday, I talked to two people with knowledge of the organization’s plans, and they confirmed what is already semi-obvious: The battle is over, and Purdy has won.

Regarding Brady:

It’s now clear that Tom Brady will not be coming home to close out his legendary career, something which seemed plausible a month ago, before Purdy proved to be far more than a one-hit wonder.

Regarding Purdy vs Lance:

It turns out that Purdy, who had far more game experience during his college career, was ready for the moment in a way that Lance wasn’t. Hey, it happens. The good news, for the Niners, is that they can continue to develop Lance as Purdy’s backup — he has two years left on his rookie deal, with a decision on exercising his fifth-year option more than a year away — while maintaining an enviable salary structure conducive to competing for championships with the league’s most loaded roster.

Regarding why this is such a good setup for SF: they gotta pay Bosa...

The Niners have some big contracts to dole out in their immediate future, most pressingly for fourth-year defensive end Nick Bosa, the likely 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. What better way to do such deals while finessing the salary cap than to have a starting quarterback due $870,000 next season and $985,000 in 2024, before the allowed negotiating window even opens for a second contract?

Brady to Niners would be epic.

Not dismissing the story but Silver is a clown and has been wrong on a lot of things Brady

Yeah and they also thought Jimmy G was The Guy until he melted down in the Super Bowl and Shanohan immediately started looking for ways to either get Kirk Cousins or a new drafted QB.

If Purdy craps the bed on the big stage the calculus changes. It always does.

People said the same thing about Burrow last year. Let Purdy win one first.

Niners should probably have 2-3 super bowls by now but no QB to deliver the ring.

The 49ers may go through this same fiasco again if they fall short this year. They think they have their guy, he craps the bed or frequents the hospital like Jimmy G and poof their window is closed and they still have no ring this century.

Unfortunately I am reasonably sure that whatever happens, Kyle Shanahan will want to do the dumbest thing.

Yeah. No kidding. I don't trust that guy. Would not be surprised to see him blow vs the Cowboys.

I hope he is wrong, I think Brady in SF could be a lot of fun, but I think he is right.

These are the same people who chose that other mf'er.

Let Purdy win one first.
I don't think it's a "one and done" scenario.

It's more about who Shanahan is comfortable working with going forward.

Maybe that should be Brady, but I can a bunch of reasons why probably isn't.

Well Purdy/Lance will be cheaper that's for sure

I’d legitimately rather see the Jets win the SB than see Mahomes win another

The only way that would ever happen is if Brady went to the Jets which would be objectively hilarious because holy **** I'm not even sure how Jets fans would react.

they would actually be a pretty sick team if Brady and someone like Hopkins tagged along. Brady would never play for them though
