Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Miami has made so many poor decisions.
Who knows. If SF falls short this season then Purdy falls off hard next season when teams have tape on him, while Miami has another lost season when Tua can't play because he got concussed 3 times again and broke his ankle or whatever. Brady may be laughing from the Fox booth

If SF falls short this season and Purdy is to blame then Brady will likely be the happiest he's been since the Super Bowl win.

I don't see how Brady puts LVR over the top. They went 6-11.

Tampa in 2019 was a top 5 defense with a handful of emerging stars on their rookie deals. Raiders defensive DVOA: 31st.

Derek Carr is not some horrendous quarterback; he's roughly average. It's not like he threw 30 picks like Jameis Winston to torpedo the team's chances. It's very predictable that Josh failed miserably (just like in Denver) and will scapegoat Carr, even though Carr is exactly what people thought he was and exactly the type of QB Josh is supposed to "make better" with his brilliant chess moves on the field.

It was pretty clear that 2019 Tampa had a lot of the puzzle pieces and just needed a few more to get to the next level. Raiders have already paid their better players and don't have a lot of cheap talent. If they cut Carr and replace him with Brady (and Brady is willing to take $30M), they have $20M in cap space. That's really not that much considering all of the upgrades they need to contend.

Brady would basically become Wayne Newton on the football field. A former icon, past his prime, for display purposes to drum up entertainment value. Best case scenario is the Raiders duke it out a few times agains the Chiefs for some high drama and possibly compete for a wild card.

San Francisco makes a lot of sense, but it doesn't look like it's happening. Miami makes some sense too.
I agree. I think it is slim pickings if we are talking about Brady joining a legit team to win a SB next year. I doubt San Fran wants him as they didn't want him 2 years ago and now they have Purdy. Miami is interesting. I think it depends on how they feel about Tua as a QB also his health with the concussions.

I think it will be very tough sledding though for Brady in the AFC and I am not sure he is enough to even put the Fins over Buffalo. I do think it makes more sense for him to stay in the NFC but outside of San Fran, there are no top teams for him to go to that I can see.

Also, starting over with a third team at age 46 is its own challenge on top of everything else.

I mean, if he can go to Vegas and get a combined 22 regular season wins, 8000 passing yards, and 70 TDs over two seasons then it's worth it. You can disperse those stats across the two seasons however you want. I want the stat padding as long as its entertaining to watch unlike this past season.

That's interesting. I do think him playing a couple of more years and stat padding will help ensure the young guns like Mahomes and Allen don't pass him even with the longer regular season and expanded playoffs. Brady's stats overall were really impressive this season all things considered especially when you compare it with Rodgers season who is 6 years younger.

Make no mistake though, I WANT him to contend for a Super Bowl. But that's obviously no sure thing to ever happen again to say the least. But if those stats that I just laid out are what happen in the regular season then they'll get into the playoffs and who knows what happens then.

I think a sports reporter's opinion is no different than anyone else's opinion. They are paid to gather information, not make stuff up. Well, that's how it used to work. Now they're hawt takez artists.

I think fans that follow the Patriots are Patriots fans, and fans that follow other teams aren't.

So, you're still stuck in summer 2018 mode I see. I'm not going to go into that wayback machine. Both sides played a role in what happened back then. It is what it is. I'm glad Brady went to Tampa and won a Super Bowl. I'm glad he didn't stay on my team and repeat 2019 three more times. I'm disappointed in what has happened with the Pats this season, but it's a process. The Pats won as many games as Tampa did, so I guess Rex Ryan is on the Tampa sidelines these days.
Gee, it would have been horrible to see the Pats repeat the 12-4 season of 2019. What a load of horse crap. I'll have to spread it around on my lawn this spring.

I'm actually stuck in the 60's, back when I went to see the Pats in Fenway Park. That was also when Bill Russell roamed the courts of the NBA, and others like Yaz and Orr were players on the other Boston teams. Those are wayback machines that I'll gladly take a ride on. You can stick with the "what have they done lately" machine that suits you so well.

I asked you a simple question about Curran's position and you dodged the question.

I followed Tom Brady, the main reason the Pats dominated the NYFL for so many years. If you didn't have Bill's butt cheeks blocking your eyes you'd know that.

Interesting:

Earlier in the week, Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles fired offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, a coach who Brady likes immensely. What's not entirely clear is how that will affect Brady's decision. Overall frustration with the offense was clear, but Tampa also had a woeful offensive line and issues all around.

While Brady struggled in his final game, going 35 of a season-high 66 passes for 351 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, he did so with almost no running game. A source says his arm strength, based on velocity, has not waned.

Either way, the Bucs' situation changes dramatically if Brady opts not to return to Tampa. They'll not only have a new OC, but will incur a $35.1-million cap hit when his contract automatically voids on March 15 -- the second-largest cap hit in NFL history if it remains untouched. Plus, they would need a quarterback.

I kinda thought firing Leftwich was a move that Brady would approve of, but this makes it sound like it is the opposite.

I kinda thought Tampa would realize their best move was to re-sign Brady and push his cap hit down the road.

This kinda indicates they know Brady is out of there so they let Blowes make Leftwich his fall guy.

If SF falls short this season and Purdy is to blame then Brady will likely be the happiest he's been since the Super Bowl win.
If Purdy screws up, the fallback is Trey Lance. They aren't going to zero out that huge investment then pay Brady what he wants/needs/deserves too.

Meanwhile, we read:

Seems the decision's been made. Sorry, Tom, it just wasn't in the cards this lifetime.

It would be great to see Brady win again if the Pats don't, but I don't care that much if he doesn't. He has far exceeded anyone's expectations and now I'd just like to see him play. I'd like to see him on the Titans but it's still a bit tough for me to see him in a non-Pats uniform.

I asked you a simple question about Curran's position and you dodged the question.
Curran's position is irrelevant. Bob Kraft doesn't call Tom Curran to ask him what role Belichick should be offered next. Belichick doesn't call Tom Curran to ask what role he should take or what he does or does not deserve. Dopes like you need dopes like Curran to construct such narratives for you. The fact that you treat Curran's narratives seriously makes you look like a fool.

Curran literally chats with Tom Brady Sr. on a regular basis. Just saying.

At this point who knows what will happen.
Rapaport is adamant with his report that SF is interested in Brady

He also doubled down on it on the McAfee show

“Tom Brady is expected to want to play for a winning franchise if he does decide to continue.”

I have a feeling that the 49ers front office is hedging. Because Trey Lance right now is a complete mystery box that they simply can't be comfortable throwing out there as next year's week 1 starter. So if Purdy regresses badly...well Jimmy G wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire so the next choice is Brady.

If you’re Vegas do you trade a 1st for Ramsey assuming you get a 2nd for Carr? I would then sign a safety (Bates) and you’re looking at a good secondary with food pass rushes in Crosby/Jones. Draft a linebacker/DT in the second round and hope Perriman/Ya-Sin can stay Healthy as both were good this season when they played. Bates and Ramsey would make the defense good and they’d become a championship contender with and offense of jacobs, Adams, Renfrow, Waller, Gronk and Brady

I’d give up a 2024 first. that 7th overall could be valuable for a defensive or OL day 1 starter if Brady comes
