Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Gronk and co has been playing us for awhile. There is almost no chance that Gronk will be back. Even if he did change his mind after Thanksgiving and wants to come back to the team, he wouldn’t football ready and the Bucs might not need him anyways.

These guys tease comebacks to keep their names in the spotlight for whatever the next moneymaking venture might be.

The Bucs are hosting free agent LB Kenny Young on a visit. Young was a 2018 fourth-round pick of the Ravens who was most recently with the Raiders.

Bucs are signing former Rams and Broncos linebacker Kenny Young to their practice squad today. Had 75 tackles last year and started 13 games between the two. Adds veteran depth, could be promoted to 53 after this week.

New Bucs LB Kenny Young could help on special teams, yes. Didn't play a snap there last year, but played 385 snaps in his first two seasons with Ravens and Rams, eight special-teams tackles.

Another encouraging step for Bucs receiver Chris Godwin, who is now practicing without a brace on his knee as he works his way back. He’s the one without a jersey on in the middle:

Still not sure where Godwin is for Sunday -- he continues to make daily progress recovering from knee surgery, but not sure how that translates to full clearance to play in a game.

Godwin still had the orange non-contact jersey today.

Today’s an extra practice so no injury report, but Tristan Wirfs, Robert Hainsey and Nick Leverett all appear to be fine and practicing as normal.

Bucs are relatively healthy entering Week 1 -- only player on the 53 I didn't see practicing in a light workout today was rookie corner Zyon McCollum, who tweaked his hamstring in Nashville.

Fournette's usage will be interesting to track -- he only hit 80 percent of offensive snaps once in first 10 games, then basically did in three straight games before the hamstring injury. I'd think they'd much prefer him in 60-70 percent range, utilizing the depth to help.

A young 4 year vet LB who had 75 tackles last year was a free agent in September? What was he a pile jumper?

Yes, Russell Gage practiced today, as he did last week. He talked in open locker room last week and seems very much in position to play Sunday. Got weeks of rest on his hamstring.

All prominent #Bucs players present and accounted for at this light Labor Day practice. Aside from Godwin, the only one training off to the side was rookie CB Zyon McCollum, who has been sidelined a while.

Bowles says Tom Brady, Mike Evans, Vita Vea, Lavonte David and Devin White will be this year’s Bucs captains. They’ll add one on special teams later.

Bucs have the same central core of captains since their Super Bowl season -- Tom Brady and Devin White for the third straight season, Mike Evans for the sixth straight and Lavonte David for the ninth straight. Vita Vea is new, as will be the special-teams captain TBD.

Bowles says Jamel Dean will start Sunday at corner opposite Carlton Davis.

The Buccaneers knew they would have a new left guard this season because of Ali Marpet’s retirement, but finding a new one proved to be more complicated than expected this summer.

Aaron Stinnie looked like the favorite to land the job, but he will miss the season after tearing his ACL and MCL. That left second-round pick Luke Goedeke and Nick Leverett as the likeliest starters and head coach Todd Bowles revealed the team’s choice on Monday.

Vita Vea is absolutely deserving. Frankly he deserved it last year but hey.

1 and 2.)
NO ain’t winning that division with Jameis and a new coach the writer brings up the bucs schedule when NO has just as difficult schedule. Games vs Tampa, Cincinnati, @ Arizona (early when there hot), Minnesota, Vegas, Baltimore. A for game stretch in November before by which consists of @Pitt, vs Rams, @SF, and @Tampa, then face Cleveland and Philadelphia both on the road. Bringing up Tampa schedule while pumping up NO as threading to take the division from them is clown talk when they probably have a tougher schedule and an above QB at best

3.) Yes the offensive line lost Marpet, Cappa, Jenson, and Stinnie but they still have a very good line which will look even better with Brady at helm. Still have the best RT in Wilrfs, and on the right side there very good to elite with Smith/Mason. Yes RG and Center are a question mark but when you have Brady who will get it out quick and have Godwin/Gage who win quick routes good luck with that.

Also still hilarious seeing “experts” pump GB again just for them to choke in the playoffs per usual. I don’t care if GB gets homegirls throughout Tampa will roll in there and smack them in January with that weak WR room
