I railed against Bowles for the play call, but it wasn't any worse than what the Patriots called in 2007, when they went zero blitz and left an injured Ellis Hobbs alone with Burress.

On the very first play of that final drive the Bucs Rush got home and made Stafford fumble but I believe he recovered it. If on that last play they were able to get to him instead of him getting the pass off to Kupp it’s a very different narrative. Bowles lives and dies by the blitz and sometimes that really worked for the bucs last season and other times they were burned.

Arians is also partly to blame for that playoff loss too. He took a hands off approach to the coverage instead of questioning his DC.

If us regular folks could see instantly that it was a terrible call, the professionals have no excuse.

I also come to believe that the defenders were confused on that play because they couldn't believe the call and were wondering if they heard it right.

True but burress wasn’t in the process of being the best WR in the game and having a historic season
