Absolutely, the Pats would grab him up in a heartbeat, what I'm saying is that there is no waaaay that he drops to #23, I've seen him going as high as #5 to Cleveland, and can't really picture him falling out of the top ten (Although I'm pretty sure I posted the same thing about Wilfork a few years ago).

Hehe, there's always that. But I think considering how big the passing game is these days. CB will be even more overrated than NTs in the draft. Well here's hoping that 22 GMs have brainfarts and take that Jenkins guy off their list.

What is it with the mock-version Pats going after backs in the first round? Did anyone see NE go 11-5 and put up more rushing yards than they had in over 20 years with a platoon of RBs? Did anyone watch the pass defense this year?

It's been a while since I've found some tasty FAIL, but our good friends at Football's Future serve up a heaping spoonful today:

23. New England Patriots: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC
Not ideal since he doesn't play in the middle, but he's tough and versatile – 2 traits of any Patriot linebacker. New England may shy away from Cushing (along with many teams) because of his injury history, but the value is pretty decent here at pick 23. CB and S are also needs, but again, the value simply isn't there. Finally, if Cassel is inevitably traded, it's conceivable they could target a QB they like – though the 'Pats have had good success drafting their QB's in later rounds so there's no reason to think that trend won't continue.

Yeah that's an EPIC FAIL, I guess they have never heard of that Brady guy that the Pats are going to replace Cassel with, plus the fact that they drafted QB in the 3rd rd last year. Who writes this stuff?

Actually it is a even bigger fail, he has the Pats trading #23 to Carolina for Peppers and then Carolina taking the QB.

How is #23 for Peppers that bad of a deal? The Patriots would immediately fill their need at OLB and still have 3 second round picks in the draft. I'd prefer trading a 2nd for Peppers, but #23 for a guy like Peppers is not a bad move at all.

Lets look at this one realistically. First, it was done prior to the trading of Vrabel and the signings of Taylor and Baker. Second, its not as much of a fail as you'd have people believe. Herman Johnson is a very good OG. Meredith is a damn good OT. Mike Thomas looks to have the goods to be another Deion Branch. Jeremiah Johnson is a very good RB. Bear Pascoe in the 6th is great value for a blocking TE. As for Moore, Williams and Foster. Moore isn't a great pick, imho. I think that he's slid on the Pats list because he didn't show the quick twitch that they like. I can agree that Brandon Williams is a horrible pick for the Pats. As for Foster. He's a 7th rounder, but he could be another David Givens type player.

If the Pats were to get Peppers for the 23rd pick, it would be a steal. Personally, I hope its the 57th pick and that they stick to their guns on it.

This is not a FAIL draft, but a pretty god one:

The mock has the Pats taking Cushing at #23, Delams at #34, tradint #47 and #58 to Carolina gfor Peppers (and getting Carolina's 5th back)

Two 2nd round picks for Peppers and a 5th, it seems like a sensable trade?

The only thing more amazing than Matt Cassell's triumphant season with the Patriots was that he not only did it with the likes of Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis in his backfield, but that they were rotating in week in and week out with injuries.

There is a need at inside linebacker, and Laurinaitis will be tempting (as a player they scouted last year with the #7 pick, I think they'd likely pick him over Maualuga), but he's not the best player available, and the Patriots and their 4 Top 60 picks can afford BPA.

Besides, I don't think that the Fred Taylor signing did anything to sure up their running game. Belichek could use a running back, but he will pick Moreno over Wells for his pass-catching, something that Wells just does not do.

The Pats got all that done with massive problems at RB . . . so they need to use their first on a RB!
