Official 2008 draft howler thread, part 1

Back to Draft Dog yet again. New pick, even cr*ppier reasons:

26. New England (from 49ers): Tyson Jackson (JR) DE, LSU
2007 Draft Pick: FS Brandon Meriweather
If he stays healthy Jackson should he a hot commodity in the 2008 NFL Draft. Jackson is 6' 5" 292 pounds and quick as a cat. DE Richard Seymour, was placed on the PUP list just before the season, so defensive end is a huge need.

Yeah, cause, you know, the DL is really sucking right now without Seymour. I mean, they're only #1 in yards allowed on first down, and they've got all those guys entering FA after 2008--I mean, without Mike Wright, the whole DL is just gonna fall apart.

I think BB is grooming K Brown to be the next supersub DE. (ala Green)

The only glaring need I see on the DL is a true backup NT for Wilfork. I'm not sure if Smith is the guy and I don't think Wright can hold up over a long period of time there.

In a pinch we could move Warren inside, which would require another replacement at DE, assuming Seymour does not not back this year.

Hopefully BB will spend some day 1 draft picks on the back eight of the defense this year.

Here's a reason to take McFadden:

New England Patriots: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
The rich just get richer and it really is very sick this time. The Patriots are looking like they can go 16-0 with ease, then they get the best running back out of the SEC since Bo Jackson. Running back really isn't a big need for the Pats, but Laurence Maroney isn't able to stay healthy and this opens a roster spot because they no longer really need a punter. I can't even begin to think how scary this offense could get if they added D-Mac./QUOTE]

OK. . . . I just found a mock that may set new records for teh stupid.

It's from a site called draft32.com.

This part I can live with:

2. New England Patriots (From SF) - Darren McFadden (Arkansas) - After trading for this pick last year, the Patriots have an absolute luxury pick that will most likely come in the top five. With most areas covered look for them snatch the multi-talented Darren McFadden to add to their already powerful offense.

Now, here comes teh stupid:

32. New England Patriots - CJ Spiller RB (Clemson) - If they've already adressed the inside linebacker position in the 2008 draft, they'll consider their next pick a luxary. Lawrence Moroney will probably be able to handle the carries himself, but if Spiller decides to enter the draft after his sophomore season he will be yet another option for Bill Bellicheck.

Many levels, all of them wrong. :bricks:

After the Ravens game, I am back to thinking we need defense.

BB was being outcoached last night, right up until Billick called that time out. Then I saw BB grin, and I knew BB knew we were going to win.

I like this thread a lot. It's got legs and will keep us busy for a year.

I tried to find a Pats howler but couldn't. I did find this however, which cheered me up no end. From Walters Football Site

For the record, the Niners fall to number 19 in this one, where we get Antoine Cason CB Arizona, while the Pats pick at 32. The guy predicts a probably trade but if not says we go for Allen Patrick RB Oklahoma, to "spell for Maroney".

I happened to enjoy this pick very much.

4. New England Patriots: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
I can't believe New England will go 19-0 and draft in the top five come next April. How ridiculous is that? Whom do the Patriots take up here? They don't really need anything, except for a cornerback if Asante Samuel leaves, and a linebacker even though Belichick never drafts them. But it's still too early to select any corner or linebacker, even James Laurinaitis. The Patriots may decide to pick the best player available, which is easily Darren McFadden. If they're scoring 40 points per game right now, how sick are they going to be with McFadden and Laurence Maroney rotating at running back?

Here's another for the annals of suck:

DraftTek.com asked the following poll question for a customized "what-if" draft.

If Miami were to trade away their #1 overall, which team is a likely trade partner?

Here were the three choices:
  • Jets trade their #6, #37 and 2009 1st rounder - target Dorsey 28% (197 votes)
  • Raiders trade their #3, #37 and 2009 2nd rounder - target Dorsey 47% (328 votes)
  • Patriots trade #7, #64, #69, #96 and 2009 1st and 2nd - target McFadden 25% (176 votes)

For God's sake, I cannot believe ANYONE thinks the Pats would give up that many draft picks for Darren McFadden--and to the 'lphins, no less. :bricks:
