I also remember Robert Weathers coming into a game on 4th and 1 to get the yard and close out a win against Cincinatti, and instead of picking up the first down, ran for a 49 (+/-) yard TD. I believe it was the last game of the season sometime around '86.

That was the game that put us into the playoffs in 1985. IIRC, it was an off-tackle right play. Weathers made a little move turning the corner and just rocketed down the sideline for the TD. I think that was the last home game I went to ... It's been too long ...

cheby, you strong

hadn't thought of weathers in a long time
as i recall his injury, like the knee injuries to RB john stephens and RB robert edwards, shut down a really promising career for each one of those backs..

Clayton Weishuhn - would have been an all-time Pats great

Remember, Robert Weathers brother Clarence Weathers played for the Pats also as a receiver. He had some talent.

I remember him as a Brown, did he play for the Pats as well? That was a fun receiving corps those days:

Stanley Morgan
Irving Fryar
Cedric Jones
Stephan Starring
Derwin Williams

Len Dawson
Derrick Ramsey

Funny Name guys always seemed to stand out to me and stick in my mind

Dino Philyaw
Smiley Cresswell
Ray Ratkowski
Gerhard Schwedes
Harry Colon (how'd like to through Jr. High with that name)
White Graves
Gayle Knief
Shockmain Davis
Preston Johnson

And my 2 favorites- **** Felt and **** Shiner.

How could you forget Kato Serawanga?

And didn't Darren Flutie have a brief stint with the team right after BC? He was in TC at the least.

Yes, Kato. I also forgot Freeman Baysinger and King Corcoran.

My favorite Patriot. He and Nelson manning the middle of the 3-4 got me hooked on football as a kid. Too bad his knees didn't hold up, he was the stereotype "raw-boned Texan" stuffing the run at ILB.

Not that obscure, but memorable.

Hart Lee Dykes (He & Fryar had that fight @ a bar)
Tony Gaitor (more well known for a horribly timed drop @ Miami than w/the Pats)
Ray Crittenden

You just stole my guy. You and DH44 mentioned the bros Weathers. I was going to do a quiz question on one or the other.

Now I have to go with Bob Golic the bro of Mike Golic who is 1/2 of Mike & Mike on ESPN.

WR Kevin Lee
WR Greg McMurtry
RB Curtis Croom
QB Tommy Hodson
TE Lovett Purnell
DT Chris Sullivan (was once competing with Eaton at NT)
FB Kevin Turner (I think a lot of us have forgotten this guy - he wasn't bad)

Recent guys I thought would someday pan out that didn't:

WR Curtis Jackson
WR/RB Willy Williams
RB Anwain Womack
QB Kliff Kingsbury (at least I didn't say Major Applewhite)

Draft picks busts that might have been forgotten:
DT Jeff Marriott
DT David Nugent
TE Dave "homesick" Stechelski
CB Brock Williams (3rd rnd pick and never played a down for us)

Tim Fox FS frm the 70's. I think he was one of 3 first round draft picks we had one year.

Does anybody remember the trade that sent Plunkett west?????

Ultimately it turned into four players. I'm going off memory, which usually fails, but I'm going to say Fox, Vagas Ferguson, Pete Brock, and..............Horace Ivory?

Edit after looking it up:

QB Tom Owen
2 First rounders in 1976 (Pete Brock, Tim Fox)
First and second in 1977 (Raymond Clayborn, Horace Ivory)

Corey Croom. He actually started that playoff game we lost against Belichick's Browns. Other RBs on that team were LeRoy Thompson and Marion Butts.

Then Terry Allen and Raymont Harris were our saviors, at least until Sedrick Shaw or Harold Shaw could take over.

hows about a couple of retread running backs?

Mark VanEeghen

Marion Butts

EDIT: DH44 just beat me with Butts, so I'll toss in Chuck Foreman as a retread replacement.

PS--VanEeghen's daughter is/was a cheerleader, no?

RE-EDIT: Why yes...yes she is Mark's kid...
