NY Post Writer claims all of Belichick's moves this year were because of the Jets

Article should have been named "Belichick's moves this year were motivated by any and all recent losses" written by Captain Obvious.

We got our asses kicked in our own house by that bitter divisional rival after going 14-2 in the regular season. Of course the moves that were made in the offseason were sparked by that loss.

This article has Patriots hater/Jets lover oozing out of it.

I read about two paragraphs, and that was all I needed to read. Anytime anyone mentions "the Patriots are 2-3 in the playoffs since getting caught cheating" (thats not the exact quote but close enough) you just know they are Pats haters.

Then, how could drafting a QB (Mallett) that wont play for 2-4 years be evidence that the team is in panic mode? I think trading that pick for a veteran player who could help right away is more of a panic. If anything, the draft pick shows the opposite of panic.

That is the Jets fans' mantra about the Pats. Since they stopped cheating they can't win in the playoffs and Brady isn't clutch in the playoffs anymore. It is a silly argument. Yes, if the Pats' offense benefitted from cheating, they would not do well in the playoffs. But they also wouldn't do well against playoff caliber teams in the regular season either. Last year, the Pats beat about six to eight of the playoff teams.

I love this line from the article:

Whatever pushed Belichick this offseason, the reversal of course has been striking. There is even talk the Patriots will switch to a 4-3 defense from Belichick’s beloved 3-4. Better to stop the Jets’ “Ground and Pound” with?

Huh?!? Isn't the strength of a 3-4 defense being vs. the run? The extra LBs can chase down the RB easier than big beefy linemen. Yes, the 4-3 works better against straight-line bowling ball runners, but not vs. faster, shiftier RBs which is more the Jets' style. There are few of the big pound right between the tackles RBs anymore.

The Pats changed to the 4-3 because you can pressure the QB more with the 4-3.

Funny...you continue with this urban legend that the Patriots were "caught cheating!!!" The Patriots, and specifically Bill Belichick, defied a rule concerning camera placement. This is continually misrepresented by Idijet fans as "cheating!!!!" All 32 teams use cameras to record game tape. The Jets do it. The Jets were caught with TWO cameras field side and Goodell did ZERO about it. Goodell USED the Patriots to set an example of his iron fist policy and it blew up on him and the Patriot organization into this ongoing fallacy.

And destroyed the evidence of his overreaction.

Why? Why is this messageboard constantly polluted with New York CRAP! I HATE ALL THINGS NEW YORK!! It warms my heart to watch the Red Sox dominate the damn Yankees. I hope the Pats do the same to the Jets this year and those miserable Giants. It's long overdue. ENOUGH New York crap!! I didn't even have to read the article to know that it was garbage. The "NY Post" in the title was proof enough. The disgusted comments of my Patriot brethren in this thread tells the rest of the story.

I beleive they are making the switch because the Pats do NOT have the type of LB's to make the 3-4 consistently effective.

The Pats broke the rule. So it was cheating. Teams cheat all the time from holding to worse in fractions. I think this was overblown and Belichick's worst crime was disregarding the memo sent out by the league telling everyone to stop doing it. But it is still a form of cheating. The Jets were caught and fined for cheating last year too. People don't make a big deal about that one.

Or the 'Stealers' a few years ago in the SB

Wow, are you guys trying to say that an egocentric Jets fan who happens to write for the post wrote an article claiming that "everything we did this offseason was because of them".

I suppose the next article will be "Everything Green Bay did in the offseason was because of the Jets so they could beat them in the super bowl and repeat".

I read the first paragraph:

Gang Green’s bitter rival won’t admit it, but Bill Belichick’s frantic — and, in many cases, uncharacteristic — moves since that epic 28-21 Jets triumph on the road in the divisional round seven months ago look downright desperate coming from a team with New England’s recent pedigree.

Uncharacteristic???? WTF? Yeah, like Belichick has spent the last decade doing very predicable and characteristic things?

The first rule of journalism is that if you want to come off as "credible" in an article, you can't start out will unicorns and leprechauns. Just another example of junk journalism.

Well....it's a bad article. The premise isn't silly--the Jets appear to be a primary conference competitor, and they knocked the Pats out last year.

But the way it's written gives the game away. Belichick is "frantic" (no), bringing in an endless line of "greybeards" (no), the drafting of Mallet was part of this "panic" (I don't even remotely understand that one), etc. etc. So it's sloppy and bad.

But again, I do think there's truth to the premise. Incidentally, along those lines, it occurs to me part of the reaction to the Jets' loss was the drafting of the RBs. That if teams want to flood the field with a millions DBs, the Pats better have top-notch backs to shred them.

The last 2 seasons in the playoffs have been dreadful!Moves needed to be maded. There will be pressure to win in the playoffs this season.

Can the OP post a synopsis of the article in his first post so we don't give that scum page views?

An insultingly stupid article written by a willfully stupid person pandering to a great mass of stupid people. That would be an embarrassing effort for a third grader ...

I think JMT57 did that job well enough in post #14

I understand reasons not to click on a NY paper.

Belichick could have flooded this team with DE/OLB players during several offseasons in a row, and never bothered doing it. Instead, he kept trying to get by, and failing to improve the situation, and the result was a playoff loss that's led to a revamping of the defensive front.

In that sense, I've got no issue with the writer making that argument.

Does it seem that ever few years a different area of the team becomes badly innadequate because the team tries to get by? WR, CB, DL.........now potentially safety.

I agree more or less, I'm just not convinced there was an actual argument and thus no real cause to write an article. Good coaches change line ups based on losses, Wilfork is large and in charge, water is wet, etc, etc...

I suppose they have to write about something....

That counts as Journalism there? id rather read a middle school newspaper. I wouldn't wipe my ass with the NY Post for fear of chaffing.

The determined suicide of the NYT by the current idiot generation of the Czulsbergers, trying to turn it into today's version of Pravda, removes that periodical from consideration. Meanwhile, the Herald has become an international newspaper. The NY Post is the only thing that resembles a newspaper in the big slum on the Hudson.

The thesis is not even novel, it is a truism. Bill Belichcik is ALWAYS constructing a Team to win and beat his opponents. What in God's name is surprising about that? It would be surprising news if he WERE NOT doing so.
