He didn’t exactly show willingness to bring it the last time he had the chance.....

Cam needs to be given a pass on this Super Bowl play. Maybe he is telling the truth when he said his body was just positioned at a weird angle. Maybe he had a brain freeze and made a mistake running towards the ball instead of immediately diving towards it. And by the time he realized his mistake, it was too late. Cam doesn't see that Malik Jackson even sees the ball until it is too late. It doesn't matter. No guarantee that even if Cam dove right away Carolina gets that ball. When you dive like Jackson did, not guarantee you are even the one recovering the ball. If you dive from too far, your odds of being able to control the ball even if you get your hands on it, may be low.

Throughout Cam's Newton's career he has been willing to take big hits when its in the interest of his team. His toughness should not be questioned. Most rushing touchdowns in NFL history. And he has many of those running more like a power running back with speed where he is clearly risking his health.

The first couple of games he looked servicable. After that though, the accuracy was just plain awful, even on easy swing passes and screens. Some deep balls made it seem like his shoulder wasn't really the problem, but just awful mechanics/footwork.

I wonder if he has a Tom House-like guru to fix his mechanics. I'd guess not.
I'll sound like a broken record, but here goes... in the first Jets game, he played with just 3 UDFA WRs, hit his 1st 12 passes, and was 20 for 21 at one point - a number of those throws were in tight spaces. He can be accurate. We just don't know whether or not Jekyll or Hyde is going to show up.

That GIF is all you Cam haters will have left when Cam three-peats in New England and by three-peat I mean 3 Super Bowl rings in a row.

I've said it a million times, Cam is the GOAT.

Brady gets rid of the ball in 2 seconds and lets one of his teammates gain the yards. Completely immobile, can't create when things break down, needs everything to be perfect.

Cam has 70 rush TD because he never had commensurate receiving talent.

What I'm saying is out of every NFL QB in history .. CAM NEWTON will do the most, with the least support around him. Cam's never had a supporting cast even close to as good as what Bill's concocting in 2021.

Cam teams on offense have always been Cam, the best player on offense including skill position players. Sadly, Cam would have been the best WR, if he lined up wide, on every Cam team besides those with Steve Smith.
Good to see a member of Cam's family found the board. Cam was an excellent quarterback, but he hasn't come close to the career Brady has had. Nobody has. We will find out exactly what Cam has left this year. The way things are playing out, there's no excuses this time.

Ok. Both are younger and have less wear and tear than Gronk. Also consider : Gronk seems intent on “only playing w Brady”. He wasn’t returning to NE. So, “yes”. I’d also rather rake in 2M$ / year at my job. But that offer isn’t out there for me to take. I’m happy at my negotiated rate.

I agree. I don't mind them. They fix areas of concern. And even with Cam's "run first" approach, TEs are good if they are good blockers. It's good. We need them

But let's agree, we had to overpay a bit as we had no option.

Gronk is 31 and has a wonky back, and hates Bill and his grumpy ways. He's staying with Brady. These guys will both be more productive than Gronk will be over the life of these contracts. Not taking anything away from Gronk and what he meant to the Pats, but he is done here.

He may be "done here" but he was also in FA and his contract also sets the benchmark. My point was only for comparison.

Also Gronk earned less than this $12m per year even at his peak 4 years ago and the salary cap wasn't that different. Salary cap is $182 now and was $167 in 2017, so 8% less. So the equivalent to Gronk's cap hit in 2017 (as % of total cap) would be $11m per year but we paid Gronk closer to $9-10 at best. So we're paying MORE to these guys as % of total salary cap EACH than we paid Gronk (the best TE ever) at his peak alone.

Belichick is under pressure. Let's just admit it. Frankly I don't mind the urgency but there's a small hint of desperation here.

In this particular season. The salary cap is going to scale massively in the coming years, and these contracts will be a much smaller proportion of the overall cap in 2-3 years from now.

You don't like Belichick - we get it. You seemingly want him to struggle because you do not like him.

Why you'd actively root against and constantly criticize and find fault with the head coach and general manager of the team you supposedly root for is beyond me.

What happened to the free agency rumor thread

Wow Bill had no faith in the rookie TEs.

Let’s be honest. Assiasi and Keene are busts in the eyes of our front office

Bingo. And Bingo.

If this doesn't prove to Team Bill just how poorly he thinks of those two Over-drafted stiffs, then I don't know what will.

Imagine how much money could've been spent helping fill other positions of need if Billy had merely played the chalk and drafted Adam Trautman & Harrison Bryant...

Ok, he doesn’t like Belichick so what. That doesn’t make him less of a fan than you are. Everybody is entitled to their opinions.

the notion that there is better fan than other is just ridiculous in my opinion. Everybody support the team in their own way.

To be honest, I don’t really like the grumpy Bill charade. I am kinda tired of it and I think up until Monday the last 3-4 years were not his best GM years. Now he made good moves. the cherry on top was the two TE, I expected only one but in my opinion they were expected moves.

We had no talent on the roster and a lot of cap space. It’s not like he added those pieces to an already contending team. They are a good building blocks for his last ride in my opinion. Before we had almost no nfl talent now we have some but I don’t think those move make us instant contender. First, the probability is that some of those signings will be busts and we still have questions at QB and on the defensive side. In my opinion, we are not even the best team in the AFC east now but at least for now we are looking up and not down.

There weren't any excuses last time either but that didn't stop them. They'll come up with something.

my eyes tell me cam newton sucked last year. But, if he really was that bad why would Bill B. bring him back?

Bill could've gone after any other "bridge reclamation" type guy. Mariota, Trubisky, alex smith, fitzpatrick. But he didnt, he went with cam newton. So either:

1. Bill is delusional and cant see talent.

2. Bill doesnt view those guys as much of an upgrade. and he views the factors around cam newton as more to do with his play than his talent itself. And must feel that with a full off-season and better team he can be serviceable.

now, either way Cam is only a one year option. Draft is where bill is going.

I think it’s a combination. Bill probably think that it’s not possible to be worse than he was last year and those Qbs would have cost probably more money with a little upgrade in his mind. For me Cam is the starter day one but his contract makes him expendable easily if he finds a better option.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we aren't stuck with Cam for a full season.

I agree with this. He's an insurance policy. I think Bill really wanted Jimmy as his bridge. But San Fran told him no.

All options are still on the table but Bill didn't want to be stuck with nothing

I think Cam is this year what Stidham was last year. If he finds a better option, he will take it.

Sorry, I am not disagreeing. I looked for where Agholor lines up, but You have to figure it's Agahalor at X and then everyone else.

Who the hell is gonna chuck it? Agaholor, Meyers, Byrd, Edelman, Bourne.... and Henry and Smith. Damn.
Byrd isn’t under contract
