"Not Worth The 4th Pick"

I think this is where my big board at the 4 pick ends up. This is subject change depending on what happens in FA obviously.

Tier 1

Abdul Carter
Travis Hunter

Tier 2

Armand Membou
Shemar Stewart (I could see myself jumping him over Membou but not yet)
Tyler Warren

Tier 3

Mason Graham (would jump up to tier two if we get bad news on Barmore)
Will Campbell
Tet McMillan
Colston Loveland

Tier 4

Ashton Jeanty
Jihaad Campbell
Jahdae Barron

Tiers 3&4 are only relevant in the case of a trade down.
I really think you need the pump the brakes on Stewart. The lack of production is eye opening. A&M is a big time school, so we can't blame coaching. I think he's another freak of an athlete who's not nearly as great when you put on pads and a helmet. I get the love, he's clearly gifted, but still. Can you show me/us another gifted under-producer in the NCAA who blossomed in the NFL? It just seems backwards to me.

I'm in all the way with you here until you get to Will Campbell of course lol

It's Mason or bust at that point.

I would trade back in the 1st Round and draft Tyler Warren. Round 2: Jayden Higgins and whoever else. After that? RB/DL/EDGE are deep and are needs (depending on how FA shakes-out). I would certainly try Ozzy Trapilo OT BC, as he could have serious potential within a couple of years (Swing Tackle as a Rookie, Starter by Year 2).

Cam Wake?

In Stewart's defense I'd say a number of things.

1. Texas A&M didn't play a scheme that gave their pass rushers licence to attack the QB. They were often given other assignments too. I saw plays in which Stewart and Scourton were required to chip the TE before attacking the OT for example.

2. Stewart had 371 snaps lining up outside tackle. Abdul Carter had 627. Mike Green had 695. Stewart just didn't have the licence to pin his hair back.

3. Stewart tested at 23lbs under his playing weight. So he'll be playing more like a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 one.

4. Stewart had the third best run defense amongst draft eligible edge rushers which I view as a pretty high floor. Obviously we want him to be more than that but I do see someone who, at a minimum, could have a Clowney like career.

5. Admittedly there is projection to Stewart's potential. But we have a defensive minded HC and one of the best DL coaches as DC. I think he'd get the attention needed to get better.

6. Finally, aside from Membou, Stewart is one of the few prospects who could give us true value for the 4 pick if he works out. That's why he gets the boost for me.

I dunno man. IF he works out is a big risk for a team that must hit on this pick. I'd rather they take a sure thing. Campbell's a guard, and all-pro one? Fine. Warren is an all-pro TE? Fine.

I completely accept your point and until recently fully agreed with it. I am just becoming more and more intrigued by Stewart's upside. If he was to live up to the potential his athleticism suggests, that pick would be one of the picks of the decade.

Huge risk for a new regime. I don't see it. They aren't in that safe space just yet. If he's a bust, someone get's chitcanned.

They almost all have IFs attached to their name.

Just been reminded that Daniel Jeremiah has Tyler Warren as his 5th ranked overall prospect. So not a reach.
I've said it before, and so I'll say it again, if Carter and Hunter are not there at #4 and a team wants to offer us their 1st (not further back than #7) and their 2nd Round Pick in this Draft, I'd take Tyler Warren. He has the very real potential to be a perennial All-Pro TE who can crush it as both a receiver and a blocker. And just as a Rookie, a long with Hunter Henry, can give Maye a legit "Go To" target in the passing game. He's more of a sure thing at TE than Campbell, Membou, or Simmons are at LT. Yes, without question we do need a significantly better OL, but taking any of those OT's in the Top 10 is something that I just couldn't bring myself to do.

If they want to trade back into the back half of the 1st Round and take whoever the best available LT Prospect is still there, then fine. And, I'd still take Ozzy Trapilo out of BC if he's there in the 3rd or 4th Round (he has LT/RT versatility).

They still haven't resigned Hooper have they?

As far as I know, not yet. But, even if they do, he's not a long-term solution (one could argue given Henry's age that he's not either). Still, if Hooper does resign, imagine Henry, Hooper, and Warren? And perhaps even Mason Taylor or the like after the 3rd Round? It's a solid TE, DL, and RB Draft. But Warren is the "Crown Jewel" of the TE Class.

That's doing a bit of a disservice to Colston Loveland who is arguably the best pure receiver of the two.

Pure receiver? Sure. Can do it all (a Gronk like TE), No. That's Warren. That's why Warren has been called "Baby Gronk" and Loveland "Baby Kelce".

I agree. I'm just saying that Loveland deserves credit for how good he is.

I think we need to go all in on Ronnie Stanley at LT, and if possible, Patrick Mekari at LG. Strange and Andrews can battle it out for C. Owenu at RG. I am warming to the idea of Will Campbell being the backup LT and switching over to RT for the time being. Stanley has trouble staying healthy. That would leave Sow, Wallace, and Robinson as depth. This sets up the o-line for a long time.

Turn to FA and draft to fix the d-line. Milton Williams and Harold Landry if he gets cut.
Chad Graff, is that you?
