Not Taking the Wind is a Fireable Offense

Things didn't go very well when Campbell started his head coaching career off only three short years ago.

He retains some of his faults.

Mayo doesn't seem to have the talent today that Detroit has had...but, Maye is making things interesting.

I would say that Mayo has lots of material so far that he can utilize to learn from and improve upon.
Right, he better show some growth this year. Otherwise, even patient people like me will want to see him gone

The way this man weaseled his way to the position without any real credentials does not inspire any confidence that he can ever become a top 10 HC. Odds are always stacked against that happening even if you're a genius---but it's 1,000 times worse when you get there with no merit just by schmooching the boss.
What's worse are the implications of Kraft's hand picking of him. If he was picked by the GM, we'd all be feeling better knowing that Kraft was likely to bring down the hammer at the close of the season. I have very, very little hope that will happen. Kraft's ego is massive, and Maye (NOT Mayo) has done just enough to change the tone and gain Mayo another year.

I think it's clear players do not like playing for McDaniels.

Johnson would be a coup. Kingsbury would be very interesting with Maye. After all he is a much bigger version of Kyler Murray, if you will. Being honest, pulling a blank on Brady Joe will have to look him up. Kellen Moore meh, not so sure about him. Vrabel was my choice last season. Him and McDaniels I think would work well.

But I would **** rainbows and unicorns if Kraft fired Mayo after just one season. I don't think he could bring himself to do it.
I like the vrable mcdaniels combination

I'll say this. Ownership as we all know wanted mayo as HC. They were likely thinking years down the road. Mayo was asked to decline interviews for DC with Atlanta, Cleveland and panthers. He didn't want to decline those opportunities without and guarantees. Can't blame anyone for that it's smart business. So he did take the right approach of trying to gain experiences outside of NE as a DC somewhere. The product on the field eroded and the process was sped up . That's why Mayo is here now instead of 2 to 3 years from now. I miss alot about bill his coaching prowess will never be matched by anyone.

You'd think while he stood there staring blankly at nothing all game, he would have noticed the wind.
I'm not sure he understands the Game. He has no instincts. Like he could have wet his finger and felt the wind direction.

Dre projects for over 800 rushing yards behind this awful O-line that's actually pretty good.
Not when you are averaging 3.8 yards per carry in a league that the run is not the defense’s primary focus. And his TD’s are from being a goal line vulture.

That's the o-lines fault. 3.8 behind this line is excellent.

For the people that want McDaniels back should read what happened in Denver and Las Vegas. He’d be lucky to even get a positional coaching job ever again.

Bob isn’t going there.

Screw the coin toss decision. Mayo should be dope slapped for going to OT, he should've gone for 2. THAT was inexcusable
I think that is more playing scared than inexcusable.

Pure math shows that you get a 1-2% I think advantage to win by going for 2 over overtime(remember you can miss the PAT and lose too).

What playing for OT lets you do is delay losing, which for some reason people like. If he goes for 2 and fails he will get a lot more negative press.

This statement depends a great deal on what you use as your initial conditions/assumptions. People are also criticizing Tampa for not going for 2 last night. But the NFL this year, for reasons which remain unclear, are only converting 2-pointers at a rate of 31%. If we look at that number, then taking the single point and going to overtime is far and away your best bet.

Of course, instead of looking at the League-wide average, should you instead look at your own team's success rate? Probably a ridiculously small sample size there. Tampa is 33%, which again says take the 1 point, and NE is 50%.

I was thinking of this the other day. I feel like teams aren't doing it enough. You are what, 2 yards away from effectively winning the game right there with a touchdown. It's the same position you would want to be in if it was overtime. Of course, you only get one shot instead of 3 or 4 with a full set of downs to do it. But would you rather have 4th and goal at the 2 with a chance to win, or put it in the hands of a coin toss, defense holding up, and then driving the length of the field and scoring. I think more often than not I'd rather take the chance on the two-point try

Nevermind what Bill became just think about Bill's resume when we hired him in 2000. Vastly more experienced than Mayo. Even Carroll's resume in 97 makes Mayo's look like an interns.
Look like? It is exactly that.

EDIT: This is actually an insult to interns as most interns have a more extensive resume than brown nosing the team owner

I think the easiest way to win in these situations is the FG and play an inept team like NEP kinda like Tenn just did.

+1

Pete Carroll was highly experienced. Mayo had 5 years of coaching (all as a position coach) before taking the top job. Even if you take away Carroll's 4 years as a Graduate Assistant, he had 16 years of experience in coaching, 4 of which were as a DC, before taking his first HC job in NY. He had 19 years of experience (1 as an HC, 6 as a DC) before taking the NE job.
