Not a single strong armed QB on the list with the exception of maybe Mallet...all dink and dunk types. Bill definitely has a type of QB he prefers and that is a game manager.

You can also make a case for Jimmy G as well.

Nick Foles says hi. When it comes to the Super Bowl, it’s all about the team around the QB plus coaching.

Bill demands that QBs be able to function as game managers as the baseline. He was definitely ok with unleashing Brady once he learned how to be a difference maker. Simplistically it comes down to how aggressive can the QB be before giving up the ball. If you are a rookie, the team will limit risks, if you are prime TB12 you have the green light to sling it.

Great list of QBs. Top 3 have to be:

1. Brady
2. JimmyG
3. Zappe

Yes, however most of these guys sucked as players.
Almost every player who makes it to an NFL roster does not suck.

They went on to succeed in different careers but most of these guys never helped the New England patriots win football games
Most of these guys did help the Pats win games, even if their role was 3rd string / scout team QB or 2nd string / backup QB. Some did help win games on Sunday, others the rest of the week. Most filled important positions at low cap cost while they were here. A few brought back draft capital at the end of their stay here so they were about as close to having free players as one can imagine. This makes room in the cap that can be spent to bring in other players.

Next, compare the last 20 years of NE's QB picks to other squads and you can see how hard it is to find even a reliable 3rd string QB. In the same time we've had Brady, Cassel, Jones, Garoppolo, etc the Jets biggest hit was Chad Pennington with lots of clunkers such as Sanchez, Hackenberg and Darnold. Cleveland has had Jonny Manzel and Baker Mayfield and a good half dozen guys one can't even remember. It goes on and on. We've had the GOAT plus other starer-level talent that have taken our team and other teams deep into the playoffs.

THEN compare how little draft capital we've spent on the position compared to NYJ, CLE, SF, etc and IMO the only conclusion you can reach is NE's QB drafting has been superb.

Belichick has drafted more QBs with SB rings than any other franchise in NFL history. Here's the list of the QBs that have SB rings as players with the Patriots:

1. Tom Brady: 6
2. Rohan Davey: 2
3. Kliff Kingsbury: 1
4. Matt Cassell: 0
5. Matt Gutierrez: 0
6. Kevin O'Connell: 0
7. Brian Hoyer: 1
8. Zac Robinson: 0
9. Ryan Mallett: 0
10. Jimmy Garopollo: 2
11. Jacoby Brissett: 1
12. Danny Etling: 1
13. Jarrett Stidham: 0
14. Mac Jones: 0
15. Bailey Zappe: Rookie

That's 7 QBs w/ SB rings out of 14, an amazing .500 hit rate. With 14 SB rings by our QBs, that's more than double what any other team has in SB rings. IMO the only conclusion you can reach is NE's QB drafting has been superb.

Nick Foles?? Is that who you're bringing up? Why not just slice through the main artery of forum.

There are two head coaches in the history of the NFL who won multiple Super Bowls with subpar quarterbacks... Joe Gibbs and Bill Parcells.

Brissett seems like he could easily become the next former Patriots backup QB to successfully coach in the NFL.

‘Nah! I think Hoyer will be the next one. Brissett may be one too, but he will be playing (or holding a clipboard as a back up) for far longer than Hoyer will be.

Nick Foles is recent. I assume that is why he stated him. Foles did it in an era where the league went totally offense focused.

Joe Gibbs and Parcells won when defenses and not offenses won championships. Even teams that won with HOF QBs back then had elite defenses. Look at the 1985 Bears, 2000 Ravens, and 2002 Bucs. All those teams had mediocre at best QBs with all time great defenses.

All you have to do is look at Joe Gibbs when he came back from retirement to see how much the game had changed since when he was winning multiple Super Bowls. Gibbs was a disaster.

But there is hope that the league could go back to defenses winning championships again. This year, scoring has been way down. If this trend continues, a team with a great defense and a game manager could potentially win a Super Bowl.

well, Brady was a game manager in 2001 and 2018, so BB is the only coach to win multiple super bowls with the same game managing QB…

Thanks for getting around to the 300-pound gorilla of game managers. That's all he was, the one-touchdown wonder of SB36, and everybody knew it. We even had constant fights with other fanbases about how the defense really carried him, how Peyton Manning is really better but just couldn't win a Super Bowl, etc. etc. etc.

I see these posts and I wonder if guys like Craw are just like 20 years old and don't remember pre-2007 Brady.

And for anybody who's asking, I'm team game manager.

Stick the skinny noodle-armed game manager in the gym (or the yoga studio, in the 401 class,) and the physical tools can be trained. Stick the laser rocket arm into a "lookit me I'm the quarterback" role, and he hosts saturday night live a lot if he has a good sensayuma.
