This was an interesting aspect to Walsh's history and Belichick's desire to learn.

But one of Belichick's favorite coaches and it you asked him who was the greatest professional Coach of all time, he would most likely nominate the man in the gray Fedora, Mr. Paul Brown.

Indeed Belichick is a Brown disciple if there ever was one. He has a prized copy of one of Brown's books. It was a prized book of his father's library that was lovingly given to him by his dad, if I remember the story correctly.

Halberstam speculated that Belichick thought the Trophy signifying League supremacy should be be called the Brown Trophy, if I recall correctly..

PFT made a point that espn had some articles that were clearly written before Walsh's death. Very creepy and eerie to think that writers are asked to do such things

Paul Brown and BB.

I miss Walsh, but lets use the proper comparisons.

Paul Brown is, indeed the Abraham of the modern NFL. Bill Walsh himself was an assistant coach under him from 1968-75 with the Bengals. I suppose that Brown must have lost his acumen for judging talent by then, since he appointed Bill Johnson as his successor for 1976. In fact, Walsh's relationship with Brown ended quite bitterly.

I also agree that the SB trophy should have been named the Paul Brown Trophy. Can you imagine what Brown, or Sid Gillman, could have accomplished with today's flag-football rules for QBs and WRs? 600 points/season, minimum.

It happens all the time in obituaries. They're kept on file and updated.

A couple years back, I was contacted by the Financial Times because they wanted to verify an anecdote with me. To this day, the subject is still alive.

Writers always have obits written beforehand for famous people. A lot of them care for these people, it's a lot to ask writers to crank out articles on short notice when people are mourning.
