NFL's "fake" season 2020

Yup. Jets get a pass from me as well.

Adam gase does not approve. You were going 0-16 covid or not.

You are left with... The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The only thing less dignified than jumping on another team's bandwagon is to dump all over your old team as you do so. Go enjoy Tommy and the Creamsicles while the rest of us get on with living through the bottoming out and upcoming reboot of the Patriots.
If you think being a blind homer makes you a better fan than me, that's your opinion.

Fact remains this team got rid of the greatest QB in NFL history, who is clearly still capable of MVP numbers, for the disaster squad currently on the roster. I refuse to be a blind homer, and let such atrocious decision making pass without criticism.

Brady would not be putting up MVP numbers on this Patriots team. He would make us much better, but it would a mirage. That's part of why he left, IMO. He know he would not win with us anymore so he split.

I mean, we haven't truly had to rebuild in 20 years. I can accept the down time and be patient. That does not make me a homer, just a realist.

Dude, the decision has passed. This is 2020, not 2019 or 2018. Harping on the past forever is pathetic. We're on to 2020, like it or not.

BB and Kraft didn't give Brady the extension because eventually Tom was going to leave. Maybe this year, maybe next year, maybe in two years, but eventually he was going to leave. Was it better to do it a year to early or a year too late? I don't know. Eventually Brady is going to retire, if he had stayed with the Pats for 2 more years we would have been going through this all again then.
My point is you don't let the GOAT walk without a succession plan in place, and they didn't/don't have one, which is exacerbated by Covid, no doubt. This whole season/year sucks, on so many levels. I really wish I was still watching Brady sling it for the Pats. It's hard when your normal escape activity is contributing to the suckage...

You must be new to the Commonwealth.... we harped on losing Babe Ruth for 86 years, so I think I can harp on losing Tom Brady for 7 months....

If over the next few games this is the result on the field that Bill gets, I really really hope he gives all of the young guys as much play time and experience as he can. If this means an awful record, so be it. At the very least, those guys would be that much more seasoned heading into next year. Throw Stidham out there with Keene and Asiasi. Rotate Gunner and Myers in there more often. Keep playing Dugger, and give more snaps to JJ Williams and JCJ. I don’t care what Wino screws up, keep his snap count up and beat a more disciplined play style into him. All the young guys in the front 7, if healthy, get them as much experience as possible. Best case scenario is they make some splash plays that turn a game around here and there, and go into the offseason as a known commodity. Worst case scenario is they stink it up, and go into the offseason as a known commodity.

If this team turns it around over the next few games, great. Throw away everything I just said.

But this has been the MO of the Patriots for years and years. Let the aging star walk, address it as soon as possible. Sometimes there is an in house solution, sometimes there isn't, but the Patriots always move forward. I think Bill was perfectly fine letting Stidham play this season and if he stunk he stunk, and next year, he would be replaced. Hey, Jimmy G was good, and from reports, if Kraft hadn't stepped in, he would have been the qb, and Brady would be gone. However, they couldn't keep both, and we got another superbowl win out of Brady, so it is hard to argue with those facts, although could JG have won that and won more, who knows.

The pandemic was the reason I didn't mind that Brady didn't re-sign with the Pats. I knew this season was going to be a lost season. It is going to get worse as the COVID virus surges again. There are going to be more games moved, cancelled, or played with a lot of key players. Hell, there could be a situation where a star player like Patrick Mahomes gets COVID right before playoff game which causes KC to lose in a game they had no business losing.

I always felt the Pats would probably suck a year or two post Brady. I would rather do it this year. This is a lost year. The Pats would have probably sucked in a regular season although not as bad because the defense would be better.

I will not be upset if the Pats have a losing record if they have a shot at one of the potential franchise QBs in the draft. They will be one of the few teams in good cap shape next year with a lot teams forced to release veterans with real upside and talent just to get under the cap. This the year to lose and load up for next year.

This is one of the saddest threads I've ever seen. Season isn't going well so it must be a fake season. Give me a break.

Outside of Chung and HT, who have we lost of any consequence? Cannon was not good last year and is on his last legs and Bolden is a STer. Furthermore, we were just celebrating this OL 2 weeks ago as being among the best in the league. Vitale may have been an improvement on Johnson, but that’s not a certainty. The problem on offense is the skill position players, which are the worst in the league, and a QB who is no longer what he once was. Chung has effectively been replaced by the combo of Dugger/Wilson/JJ Williams when needed. HT hasn’t been replaced, but he isn’t the reason this team sucks right now. The issues are on the offensive side of the ball. You’re using Covid as a convenient excuse. Covid isn’t the reason the team is 2-4. You can point that finger straight at the head coach. That’s what happens when you whiff on one high pick after another for 7 years and lose the security blanket that covered your ass for two decades.
You're overstating my point. Once again, I am posing Covid-19 as an "excuse" for nothing. I ONLY am suggesting this team would have fared better six games in sans specific obstacles the pandemic presented -- one, perhaps two wins better. I agree they have significant talent deficits in multiple areas and never expected them to be better than average this year, figuring 8-8, 9-7. At this point they'll be lucky to break even.

It's the same "fake" for everyone else

Give you a break? No. You've missed the point entirely.

We don’t win in 2018 with jg instead of Brady, that much is for sure to me. Jimmy couldn’t get it done last year with an amazing team and missed multiple easy throws in the 4th quarter that would have likely kept the chiefs from coming back. At this stage he is not a sb winning Qb, perhaps he could be one someday but I think he showed last year he’s not there yet. Jg is a fine starter when healthy but that’s my other concern with him, durability. Absolutely agree with trading him, even as worrisome as our current situation is.
