I think signing Greg Salas off Philly’s practice squad should be something under consideration, we thought highly enough of him last year to offer a draft pick to St Louis, so why not. We need someone behind Amendola and Edelman who is not a rookie.
My concerns for adding Salas would be the overkill for smaller, slot-like receivers in Amendola, Edelman, and Salas--all who offer a somewhat similar skillset; although we did see more outside routes from Edelman yesterday, so that's a good sign. If anything we need the X receiver improved upon, not the Y, so the only real option is to try and be patient with Thompkins who was way ahead the entire summer.
The other concern would be exactly who we'd get rid of, as it would likely have to be a WR. We currently already have 6 WR's on the roster, with Harrison on the NFI list eligible for return after week 6, and Quinton Sims on the practice squad.
Some already think it's overkill to have all of those guys as it is, and the question remains as to what we'll do with Harrison come week 7. It's not like we're going to cut any of Amendola, Edelman, Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce, or Slater for a guy who is still very developmental. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't imagine them cutting any of those guys under any reason, so unless one gets injured and goes to IR there really isn't any room even for a polished veteran, let alone a guy like Salas who is very developmental.
Just my thoughts of course, you may be right but I'd think the odds are pretty slim.
