NFL trade market – WR and TE

I agree--no way Belichick is going to dedicate that much money to the position, and Nicks will likely be a 8-9m dollar per year receiver, if not even more.

I think signing Greg Salas off Philly’s practice squad should be something under consideration, we thought highly enough of him last year to offer a draft pick to St Louis, so why not. We need someone behind Amendola and Edelman who is not a rookie.

I'd like to have Lance Kendricks but I think the day BB does a deal with Jeff Fisher would be after hell freezes over.

Yes, the Packers will trade James Jones and the Giants will consider trading Hakeem Nicks because trading important parts of the offense is what all teams with serious Super Bowl aspirations do.

Yes, I was just screwing around, but the point is a talent like Boldin could have been had for a measly 6th round pick

Not to the Patriots, I don't think. That was a deal Harbaugh made with his brother.

Let's bring back Moss. While obviously not the same, he's still familiar with Brady & the offense and I think he would be reasonable WR. Plus, Thompkins and especially Dobson could learn a few things from him.

They would never bring in anyone mid-season that had neither been in camp or been in the system before. Even if all of the receivers were hurt, they would bring in Branch, Jenkins, Salas, etc. before they brought in players that had no concept of this playbook or scheme. It would take them too long to learn the system, and not enough practices/practice time. I think other positions (e.g. CB [Talib], DL, Kicker, Punter, OL, FB) would be easier since there's less to learn than WR and TE in terms of assignments, unless their role was extremely limited.

Brandon Lloyd was OK last year. At least he can keep his feet in bounds.

Go on & tell me why not then.

Moss wasnt great even when he was in football shape. He is completely out of shape now. Do the math.

Stallworth is on the shadow roster. Cant imagine that at 32 he still dosent have a little left. Savy vet with good speed and familiarity with the system. If they need help that is where they should go. However they would either need to carry 7 WRs, or IR/cut a rook and hope he clears waivers. That is the problem.

I think KT will be ok with a little experience. Boyce and Dobson need some reps. Its not time to panic yet but I am sure there is a contingency plan because if DA went down that would be a problem.

I'm pretty sure the Giants and GB are not just looking to make the Pats a better team by giving up there #2 and #3 WR's for the pats 3rd or 4th round pick. So there only option at WR is Branch or Lloyd and that's not going to make the team better,

once Gronk comes back Brady will have he's #1 guy and he will stop forcing the ball to Thompkins and maybe by then they will let boyce return a kick and run a post route or two to open it up

I have to agree with Bruins29 on all counts. The only reason I want to see "Patriots Sign Randy Moss" is if it's followed by "To A One-Day Contract For Retirement".

Thompkins will be very very good by the end of the season. He's got a big body he's learning how to control, once he gets that and his timing down he's going to be an incredible asset.

If someone goes to IR, I think Donte Stallworth can be an effective part of our offense. Unlike Moss, I believe Stallworth would also be humble enough to teach our young guys the finer points of the offense and how to be an NFL WR.

If someone goes to IR, .

Ideally, the practice squad but I would doubt our rooks would clear.

Another thing, it is a good sign that CBs are tugging at Thompkins jersey and having to use those tactics. It means KT is fast and getting away from them.

Let's see... He's got the exact opposite mentality of what the young WRs should be surrounded by, he's lost a lot of his physical skills, he's had no incentive to stay in shape this offseason, he left the team on bad terms, and there's no way he mentally pulls himself out of retirement.

Tavon Austin- 6 receptions 41 yards

Cordarrelle Patterson- 1 reception 10 yards

Justin Hunter- 0 reception 0 yards

Robert Woods- 1 reception 18 yards

Terrance Williams-2 receptions 32 yards

Marquise Goodwin- 1 reception 0 yards

Markus Wheaton- 0 receptions 0 yards

All these rookies are doomed. We should hurry before they scoop up lloyd and branch!

- you know his mentality & what's going on inside his head?
- lost physical skills? i know...of course he has.
- how do you know how much he's been working out? not saying he's been going all-in like he knew he'd be playing, but still.
- didn't he leave 1 or 2 other teams on bad terms before coming here in '07?

DeAndre Hopkins looked halfway decent for it being his first game tonight.

I believe his stat line was 5 or 6 catches for around 65-70 yds.

IMO he was the best WR in this Draft and he has a great WR on the other side of him he should have a really good season

I think signing Greg Salas off Philly’s practice squad should be something under consideration, we thought highly enough of him last year to offer a draft pick to St Louis, so why not. We need someone behind Amendola and Edelman who is not a rookie.

My concerns for adding Salas would be the overkill for smaller, slot-like receivers in Amendola, Edelman, and Salas--all who offer a somewhat similar skillset; although we did see more outside routes from Edelman yesterday, so that's a good sign. If anything we need the X receiver improved upon, not the Y, so the only real option is to try and be patient with Thompkins who was way ahead the entire summer.

The other concern would be exactly who we'd get rid of, as it would likely have to be a WR. We currently already have 6 WR's on the roster, with Harrison on the NFI list eligible for return after week 6, and Quinton Sims on the practice squad.

Some already think it's overkill to have all of those guys as it is, and the question remains as to what we'll do with Harrison come week 7. It's not like we're going to cut any of Amendola, Edelman, Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce, or Slater for a guy who is still very developmental. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't imagine them cutting any of those guys under any reason, so unless one gets injured and goes to IR there really isn't any room even for a polished veteran, let alone a guy like Salas who is very developmental.

Just my thoughts of course, you may be right but I'd think the odds are pretty slim.

Why do people keep posting this sort of thing (raw rookie numbers) without any additional context? It's absolutely meaningless.
